Fusion 11 and Fusion 11 Pro: Available Now!

Download          Upgrade Now

Hot on the heels of macOS Mojave’s release today, we’re proud to announce that  our latest major upgrade to Fusion: VMware Fusion 11 and Fusion 11 Pro, is available now!

We are incredibly proud of this release as we continue to focus on developer workflows and increasing our automation capabilities, while still improving on GPU and overall performance, stability and security.

Cut right to the chase and get the bits:

Direct Download             Upgrade

This release delivers many new features and platform enhancements such as:

Enhanced Metal Graphics Rendering Engine with Direct3D 10.1

Fusion 11 and Fusion 11 Pro both default to the new Enhanced Metal Graphics Rendering Engine on supported hosts, and has been updated to deliver DirectX 10.1 compatibility. Now supporting Anti-Aliasing as well as Geometry shaders, games and apps which require DirectX 10.1, or which fallback to 10.1 from DirectX 11, will now run in a Windows 7, 8 or 10 virtual machine.

DirectX 10.1 with Anti Aliasing and 3GB VGPU RAM

Updated User Interface, Application Menu

Fusion 11 delivers an all new Application Menu for quickly accessing VM inventory, changing view modes, settings, snapshots, or launching Windows applications from a single click. The Application Menu can run with or without Fusion, allowing users to launch and control VMs at an instant.

New Finder integration at the top of the VM Window allows users to quickly navigate to anywhere in the running VM’s folder tree, supporting drag and drop file location printing (Drag the VM name to Terminal or any text-input field, it prints the vm’s file path)

Open a Finder window to anywhere in the VM’s file tree, or drag to print the path in a text field

Includes added support for customizing the Touch Bar for equipped Macs using new contextual functions for the VM Library and the VM Window.

Improved: Fusion REST API v1.2

Introduced in Fusion 10 Pro, the Fusion REST API has new controls for configuring Virtual Networking such as Mac-IP DHCP bindings, NAT Port Forwarding control and more.

New controls for managing DHCP and NAT

One-Click SSH

Fusion 11 and Fusion 11 Pro can rapidly connect to any Linux VM running an OpenSSH or compatible service with a single click from the VM Library Window. You can choose to save the password to avoid entering it in each time.

Quickly SSH into a Linux VM

New vSphere View

In addition to supporting ESXi 6.7 and the deployment of vCenter Server Appliance 6.7, VMware Fusion 11 Pro can now view into Hosts and Cluster detail when connected to remote (or local nested!) vSphere environments. View your resources by VM, Host or Cluster to get a better look at your sphere inventory right from Fusion.

Run a series of ESXi VMs with a vCenter Server Appliance to simulate a real vSphere environment, and connect to it directly from Fusion

Also Included in this release:

Hardware Version 16

Fusion 11 now uses VMware Virtual Hardware Platform version 16 which contains many improvements around areas of security, performance, and stability, as well as adding support for the latest Macs, including the 18-core iMac Pro and MacBook Pro with 6-core Intel i9 CPU.

  • Included in HWv16 are:
    • Improved Virtual NVMe Device Performance
    • Important Security Fixes (Spectre, Meltdown and L1TF)
    • Virtual Trusted Platform Module
    • UEFI Secure Boot
    • IOMMU
    • VBS Support (guest only)
  • Support for the latest Host and Guest OS’s
    • macOS 10.14 Mojave – Host and Guest
    • Windows 10 October 2018 Update – Guest
    • Windows Server 2016 updates – Guest
    • Ubuntu 18.04.1, Fedora 28 – Guest
    • VMware Photon OS – Guest
    • VMware ESXi 6.7 – Guest

Automated Disk Cleanup

Introduced in Fusion 10 for Windows Guests, Fusion can be configured to automatically perform a ‘disk clean upoperation every time the VM is Shut Down to help save host disk space.

Virtual Network Simulation

Introduced in 2017, Fusion 11 Pro can also configure virtual networking, including bandwidth limits, packet loss and latency to test application resiliency in bandwidth-restricted environments

Performance, Bug and Security fixes

Fusion 11 includes many under-the-hood changes to increase performance, particularly with Virtual NVMe devices. Simply change your virtual disk type to NVMe to increase performance on SSD storage equipped Macs.

Also included are a bounty of security fixes and architectural changes to mitigate against todays latest hardware and software based threats like Spectre, Meltdown and L1TF vulnerabilities.

Another Amazing Release!

All in all we are incredibly proud of this release as we continue to focus on developer workflows and increasing our automation capabilities, while still improving on GPU and overall performance, stability and security.

Is there anyway you could extent the free upgrade cut-off? I purchased my licence not too long before the 21st August.

Why has VMware Horizon Flex been removed. We cannot use VMware Fusion now as a Horizon Flex client.

Have you yet fixed the issue where additional monitors snap to the primary/working monitor or do they remain as set like Microsoft Remote Desktop multi-monitor? For example, I set the primary monitor to VMWare Fusion / Windows. Monitor 2 and 3 are in Windows. I then change the primary monitor to Mac, right now my additional monitors change to the mac desktops as well and do not maintain the desktop they are currently on. This has been discussed at length before to you, over twitter, DM’s, etc. Let’s not play “I’ve never heard this before” – this is a long standing annoying issue with Fusion. I hope this is FIXED in v11 but doubtful, and not sure why if not.

    Hello!

We have a somewhat unique use case. We run a classroom to teach Adobe products and use Fusion to allow students to choose the OS with which they feel comfortable so they don’t have to adapt to both an unfamiliar OS and new, complex software.

I wonder how Fusion 11, running on an iMac Pro, would do with Photoshop (and friends). When I made similar inquiries to VMWare long ago, staff have usually blown off our use case and told us to run Adobe apps native on the Mac, completely missing the point.

Hopefully you get it….So, are there any benchmarks? Do Illustrator and InDesign “see” the virtual GPU at all? Our current, old iMacs are getting on and we’d like to shop carefully. Thanks!

      Hi Steve =)
Interesting use case, certainly not one I’d brush off.
I have 2 iMac Pros and an Adobe CC account, so I’m happy to test it out.
They should both see the full virtual GPU, and v11 has up to 3GB of vRAM that can be allocated, so they’d benefit pretty significantly from the bump where they use 3D hw accel to draw the UI, render, etc..
Feel free to follow up with me via email and we can discuss further.

My last attempt to get a response of some kind. My direct emails (your suggestion) have gone unanswered.

I’ve installed Fusion on new (2019) 27″ iMacs (not pros), Radeon Pro Vega 48, 40G ram and SSDs. Adobe Illustrator does not “see” the virtual GPU and runs like a dog (just zooming takes a *long* time!). InDesign is slightly better. Photoshop runs adequately except for its 3D functions which behave horribly in Fusion.

Are there *any* suggestions for how to improve performance? Settings in Windows, Fusion (like the vmx file), or the Adobe apps? Some hack maybe?

I’m hoping for a response. I attempted email to you as you requested (twice).

I’ve installed Fusion on new (2019) 27″ iMacs with 40G ram, SSDs, and vega 48 gpus. In Windows 10, Adobe Illustrator runs *very* poorly (even simple zooming is super slow), InDesign is little better. Photoshop is adequate with the exception of 3D which is impossible. I dread trying the video products.

Is there some setting or hack I can try in Fusion (something to add to the vmx file, maybe), Windows, or to the Adobe apps to improve performance? Some way to get AI to “see” the virtual GPU, perhaps?

My students are so grateful to work in the OS in which they’re comfortable. Please help us continue to offer this–and to help us continue to buy and use Fusion.

Each country has its own rules about flying aeroplanes. If the wedding happened to be in proximity to a commercial airport then often airports will prohibit flying at the proper place in relation to the clouds. The controllers are going to give all the attention to their traffic. As a result, the service will only be available a minimum of 30 miles from any domestic airports.
