VMware is continuing to expand its Kubernetes portfolio to new infrastructure types to provide a seamless experience for customers. Our mission is to enable and accelerate consistent developer, operations, and security experiences, everywhere. Our long history as an Amazon partner has yielded a number of innovations for our mutual customers. Today, at AWS re:Invent, VMware is pleased to highlight VMware Tanzu enhancements that work in conjunction with Amazon products to deliver value. Visit us at booth 1604 in the Venetian Convention and Expo Center to get a deeper understanding of these capabilities. In the meantime, here is a brief overview of what we’ll be talking about in Las Vegas.
Unlock innovation with Tanzu Application Platform on Amazon EKS
A recent VMware-commissioned survey showed that organizations are increasingly running applications in production on Kubernetes across multiple clouds and environments, and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) is among the most popular services. Companies are finding that their Kubernetes strategy must consider a multi-cloud and multitool developer experience. Installing VMware Tanzu Application Platform on EKS is among the most favored combinations. Tanzu Application Platform on Amazon EKS helps you unlock innovation while helping to enforce open source governance, security policies, and enabling compliance with industry regulations. Tanzu Application Platform includes features and management capabilities that let platform engineering teams build and manage multiple software supply chains on any Kubernetes cluster type. With Tanzu Application Platform your engineering teams can create and manage customized and secure software supply chains based on each teams’ specific golden path.
At AWS re:Invent, we will be highlighting a refreshed AWS QuickStart that walks through how to install Tanzu Application Platform on Amazon EKS with just a few clicks. The latest release of Tanzu Application Platform can make container scanning even smoother with supply chains that now allow Grype and Snyk image scanning using Amazon Elastic Container Registry (ECR).

Improve developer experience with Tanzu Application Service and AWS integration
VMware Tanzu Application Service is a modern application platform for enterprises that want to continuously deliver and run microservices across clouds. We recently announced general availability of Tanzu Application Service 3.0, but what you may not know is that Tanzu Application Service 3.0 works on top of and enhances Amazon Web Services (AWS) for developers.
- Tanzu Application Service integrates natively with Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and VMware Cloud on AWS. Platform operators can seamlessly deploy the VMware Tanzu Application Service on AWS and expand their internal platform offerings across their favorite infrastructure-as-a-service platforms.
- VMware Tanzu Cloud Service Broker for AWS extends the embedded marketplace in Tanzu Application Service, allowing platform operators to offer native AWS services to their developer community within the platform.
- Tanzu Cloud Service Broker enables organizations to rapidly consume AWS native services in conjunction with their existing platform.
- Platform operators can pre-define marketplace offerings for each AWS service, including built-in organizational-specific guardrails, and best practices.
- Developers can simply consume these marketplace offerings without leaving their existing workflow or learning how to navigate the AWS console.
- Tanzu Application Service can ease cloud migration pains as applications running on-premises, or other cloud providers can easily be re-deployed to Tanzu Application Service deployments running on AWS without re-writing code.

Streamline platform management at scale with Tanzu for Kubernetes Operations and Amazon EKS
VMware Tanzu for Kubernetes Operations is the foundation for building a modern container infrastructure at scale across all your clouds. The VMware Tanzu team is pleased to highlight the following enhancements that enable organizations to simplify management of Amazon EKS containers, enhance security of applications and data on Amazon EKS clusters, and optimize workloads across your Amazon EKS clusters through automation.
Simplify Amazon EKS cluster lifecycle management with Tanzu Mission Control
At VMware Explore 2022, we announced the upcoming preview of lifecycle management of Amazon EKS clusters through VMware Tanzu Mission Control. Today we are pleased to announce that the preview is now available, allowing users to connect Tanzu Mission Control to their AWS account and create, update/upgrade, and delete EKS clusters and node pools. To learn more, watch our co-presented webinar with AWS on-demand.
Connect, secure, and monitor your EKS environment with Tanzu Service Mesh, now on AWS Marketplace
AWS customers can now purchase VMware Tanzu Service Mesh Advanced edition for their EKS and EKS-D environments via AWS Marketplace. Tanzu Service Mesh Advanced provides advanced, end-to-end connectivity, security, and insights for modern applications—across application end users, microservices, APIs, and data—enabling compliance with service level objectives (SLOs), data protection, and privacy regulations.
Tanzu Service Mesh Advanced is the latest VMware service to become available in the AWS Marketplace, a digital catalog with thousands of software listings from independent software vendors that make it easy for customers to find, test, buy, and deploy software that runs on AWS. Joint Tanzu Service Mesh and AWS customers can now accelerate application modernization, migrating workloads faster to the cloud, adopting a cloud operating model for their entire organization, and more securely and efficiently connecting a distributed workforce to cloud-based resources.
Optimize operations with full visibility to Amazon EC2 and Amazon EKS users
The team behind VMware NSX Advanced Load Balancer (Avi) is pre-announcing a unified dashboard for multiple datacenter and cloud deployments. In addition to the existing central keyless license management, proactive zero-touch support, and live security threat feed, this new level of centralized visibility would allow customers to better operationalize their environments with control over license usage and would enable an always-on application security. Pulse features are applicable to Avi controllers deployed in any cloud, including AWS. It would allow Amazon EC2 and Amazon EKS users to:
- Provide holistic visibility of all controllers across heterogeneous deployments.
- Manage workloads in the cloud and on-premises with a central portal and full visibility .
- Simplify smart operations and troubleshooting at DevOps speed.
So as you can see, together with AWS, the VMware Tanzu portfolio can deliver efficiency and simplicity for developers and operators. VMware Tanzu is continuing to provide consumable, cloud native Kubernetes platforms while improving the developer experience so that our mutual VMware and AWS customers can transform. Get started on your transformation today with the refreshed VMware Tanzu Application Platform on AWS Quickstart.
