VMware Application Catalog UI Now Accessible Via VMware Cloud Services Portal

VMware Application Catalog (formerly called Tanzu Application Catalog) aims to make the lives of platform engineers and operators easier by enabling them to seamlessly deliver ready-to-use, production-grade open source software (OSS) images to their developers. VMware Application Catalog is a catalog of trusted, continuously maintained, and verifiably tested open source images, custom-built to enterprise specifications, and privately delivered directly to a customer’s registry of choice. It helps operators avoid going through the tedious packaging and maintenance tasks typically involved in OSS usage.

In July 2022, the user interface (UI) of VMware Application Catalog was merged with VMware Marketplace to simplify access for users. We have since realized, based on feedback from our customers, that the original design of having individual UIs for VMware Marketplace and VMware Application Catalog was the best approach. So, starting December 15, 2022, users will once again be able to directly access VMware Application Catalog from the VMware Cloud Services portal without having to go through VMware Marketplace. This change does not affect the functionality or the performance of VMware Application Catalog in any way, and the product inherently remains the same.

What will change for VMware Application Catalog users?

If you are an existing user of VMware Application Catalog, you will find a change in the way you log in to VMware Application Catalog and subsequently, once you have logged in, you will notice a new left pane with various options to interact with the product.

Starting December 15, 2022, users can click directly on the VMware Application Catalog tile (instead of clicking the VMware Marketplace tile as before) in the VMware Cloud Services Console and start accessing the product, without having to go through VMware Marketplace. Alternatively, they can visit the URL app-catalog.vmware.com directly and use their Cloud Services Console credentials to log in and use VMware Application Catalog.

Once users are in the new UI of VMware Application Catalog, they will find the tabs—Applications, Base Images, Registries, and Automation Center—in the left pane. They will be able to see their curated catalog in the My Applications section and the status of their requests in the My Requests section under the Applications tab. They can use the Base Images tab to upload custom base OS images, and the Registries section to add their private registries.
