Tanzu Data Intelligence Gets Smarter with New Updates and Enhancements

At Explore Las Vegas 2025, we introduced VMware Tanzu Data Intelligence, a unified approach to helping enterprises unlock the full potential of their data – structured, semi-structured, unstructured, and streaming, across private and hybrid clouds. Built to make organizations AI ready, Tanzu Data Intelligence brought together the power of modern data lakehouse architectures, real-time processing, and intelligent metadata management.

Today, we’re excited to announce new updates across key components of Tanzu Data Intelligence, making the platform even more resilient, performant, and future ready. From data lakehouses to databases, each enhancement strengthens the foundation for enterprise-scale data intelligence and AI innovation.

Stronger data lakehouse foundation, optimized for VCF

Modern analytics demand a powerful, scalable, and intelligent data lakehouse foundation. With the latest enhancements to Tanzu Data Intelligence – powered by VMware Tanzu Greenplum and VMware Tanzu Data Lake, enterprises can now achieve greater performance, interoperability, and governance, seamlessly managing structured, semi-structured and unstructured data for faster insights and smarter decisions.

Firstly, Tanzu Greenplum is now officially certified and optimized for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9, ensuring seamless functionality and high performance across critical infrastructure components, such as NSX, vSAN, and vSAN Max storage clusters. This certification validates key use cases, like high availability and disaster recovery failover in Tanzu Greenplum, as well as mirrorless  configurations in Tanzu Greenplum that leverage VCF for compute and storage resilience. With this update, customers gain the peace of mind that comes from deploying a modern data intelligence solution that is certified on VCF 9, combining reliability, scalability, and simplified operations in one integrated stack.

The latest Tanzu Greenplum 7.6 release also brings significant performance and resilience enhancements. Query execution is now faster than ever, powered by innovations like ghost indices for selective column scans, hardware-optimized CRC support, and improved shuffling for joins with many NULL values. Support for lateral joins, smarter partition elimination, and optimized paths for short queries further improve efficiency. On the resilience front, automatic cluster recovery and differential (delta-only) recovery minimize downtime and reduce operational risk. With these updates, enterprises benefit from intelligent, self-healing infrastructure that delivers consistent performance and reliability, without the administrative overhead.

Tanzu Data Lake 2.0 introduces flexible data management and compute capabilities for the modern enterprise. It enhances scalability through external Platform Extension Framework (PXF) instances and now supports Apache Spark, a popular analytics engine for machine learning and big data processing, including Apache Iceberg. A preview of Open Metadata support also introduces an open source data catalog to manage metadata and lineage. Together, these innovations enable organizations to combine SQL and Spark for versatile analytics and establish a robust foundation for metadata-driven governance, strengthening control and visibility across data estates.

Power real-time data insights and applications at enterprise scale

In today’s digital world, speed and consistency are critical. The latest updates to the real-time capabilities in Tanzu Data Intelligence include enhancements to VMware Tanzu GemFire, VMware Tanzu for Postgres, and VMware Tanzu for Valkey; reinforcing our commitment to real-time, reliable, and high-performance data services across environments.

Tanzu GemFire 10.2 delivers broad advancements across performance, resilience, and observability, strengthening GemFire’s position as the real-time data backbone for mission-critical systems. This release introduces smarter server health monitoring, optimized server-to-server connection efficiency, and faster, more secure TLS 1.3 handshakes. Cluster-to-cluster data replication introduces new wildcard region selection and enhanced failure handling, while default server stats collection and expanded metrics provide deeper operational visibility. With improved OS-level insights, and full support for modern JVMs, Tanzu GemFire 10.2 offers even more reliability and consistency under the most demanding, latency-sensitive workloads.

Responding directly to customer needs, Tanzu for Postgres now includes automated incremental restore via pg_rewind, simplifying recovery by synchronizing old primaries to current data faster. The addition of TimescaleDB brings advanced time-series capabilities, ideal for use cases such as financial analytics, IoT monitoring, and event tracking. These updates minimize downtime, strengthen operational resilience, and broaden analytical possibilities, ensuring enterprises get more from their trusted Postgres environments with lower risk and higher performance.

Tanzu for Valkey continues to evolve with new capabilities that streamline migrations and enhance availability. Customers can now migrate existing Redis or Valkey instances into Valkey Sentinel with ease, simplifying transition and adoption. Pod disruption budgets for high-availability (HA) instances further reinforce resilience during maintenance or unexpected events. These updates not only strengthen operational continuity but also align enterprises with the growing open source Valkey community, ensuring future-ready, interoperable key/value data management.

Powerful upgrades to messaging and streaming for enterprise intelligence

Data movement and messaging are at the heart of  Tanzu Data Intelligence. With the latest release of VMware Tanzu RabbitMQ, we’re expanding capabilities for event-driven and streaming architectures that demand enterprise-grade reliability and efficiency.

Tanzu RabbitMQ 4.2 introduces major upgrades to message scheduling, stream processing, and data movement. A new distributed design for delayed and scheduled messaging replaces the old plugin, using Quorum Queues to safeguard messages during node failures. SQL filter expressions enable precise stream data processing, while high –availability, enterprise-grade distributed dynamic shovels simplify message transfers across diverse protocols and clusters. Together, these capabilities make Tanzu RabbitMQ 4.2 a robust, intelligent messaging backbone for Tanzu Data Intelligence and ideal for high-volume, event-driven applications.

With these updates, Tanzu Data Intelligence continues to deliver the foundation for AI-ready, real-time, and unified enterprise data architectures on VMware Cloud Foundation and on-prem or hybrid cloud infrastructure. From faster analytics to stronger resilience and expanded integration, these innovations ensure enterprises can move from raw data to actionable intelligence, securely, efficiently, and at scale.
