Sipping Coffee in the Rain at the One and Only KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America!

Get ready for a jam-packed experience at KubeCon+CloudNativeCon – the event is sold-out with an expected 8,000 attendees this year! We will kick off the week with Kubernetes Contributors’ Summit on Sunday, and host the Kubernetes and Service Mesh Workshop on Monday. We’ll dive into the show Tuesday with a keynote, deep dive on topics such as Harbor, CNCF Cross-Cloud CI, VMware SIG, and before the welcome reception we’ll join Chris Aniszczyk, CTO/COO of CNCF, VP of Developer Relations at Linux Foundation, to honor the community with the CNCF Maintainer and Ambassador Awards. And that’s just to start the week!

If you are looking for the Cloud Native Apps team, find us at booth #D3 where we will showcase VMware PKS and VMware Cloud PKS, our Kubernetes offerings which help enterprises either deploy and operate Kubernetes on their own, or simply consume Kubernetes as a SaaS service on public cloud. We are also looking forward to talking to you on any of the open source projects listed below!

Cloud Native Storage Day The industry-led, co-located event, Cloud Native Storage Day brings together users of cloud native storage technologies as well as experts from the top cloud native storage companies. If you are pre-registered for this event, join software engineer Vladimir Vivien and community panelists to learn about Container Storage Interface (CSI). Also if you are interested about running stateful workloads, come and learn about best practices for deploying stateful apps on Kubernetes with Vladimir and co-presenters from Adobe.

Kubernetes and Service Mesh Workshop

Our popular Kubernetes workshops are back, and this time, we’re adding Service Mesh into the agenda. Learn about the technical architecture of Kubernetes with Boskey Savla, take a deep dive into the Service Mesh use cases, and see demos delivered by the technical SMEs who contribute to Kubernetes community.

Wendy Cartee, Senior Director of Cloud Native Advocacy, will be taking the morning keynote stage on taking Kubernetes to 100,000 enterprises by sharing lessons learned from the past. Using VMware’s experience helping organizations with technology shifts, she will discuss the key factors for mainstream enterprise use and how VMware is working with the community to drive adoption.

vSphere is a popular deployment platform for Kubernetes. In the Intro to VMWare SIG session, learn about the engineering contributions around the cloud provider to make deploying Kubernetes on vSphere effortless, whether you want to deploy on-premises or in a public cloud.

Last month we saw Harbor graduate into the CNCF Incubator stage from the Sandbox. Come to the Intro to Harbor session to learn about the open source cloud native registry project and how far the community has come in terms of user adoption and feature development.

We will also be featured in BOF talks and breakout sessions on Container Build Manifests from open source engineer Nisha Kumar, Service Mesh from Istio founding engineer Shriram Rajagopolan, Using Cluster API to Deploy Clusters with staff engineer Loc Nguyen and Intro to Release SIG with open source engineer Tim Pepper.

Supporting each release of Kubernetes takes a community. Join Doug MacEachern, Senior Staff Engineer, VMware and the release team from Heptio, Google and Red Hat to see a deep-dive into how the build and release process actually works, as a view into tooling around the release. It’s a similar experience to taking a factory tour to get an insider view into how Kubernetes is made!

We are also actively participating in the cross-cloud project and Kubernetes IOT Working group.

Check out our sessions on Cross-Cloud CI – Adding Support for New Platforms with software engineer Andrew Kutz and Intro to Kubernetes IOT Edge Working Group with software engineer Steve Wong, along with Huawei, Google and Red Hat.

More and more enterprises are adopting functions-as-a-service frameworks like OpenFaaS to modernize their monolithic application with serverless functions and Kubernetes. Hear from Patricio Diaz of Vision Banco SAECA and Alex Ellis, the founder of the OpenFaaS project in this session on how the bank is transforming its home banking service with OpenFaaS functions and implementing application monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana.

Image management across distributed runtimes can be an operational challenge. The integration between two open source projects – Harbor container registry and Dragonfly, a peer-to-peer file distribution system, helps reduce the complexity with high volume, distributed image management. Join this session, Fly your containerized environment by Joint Work of Harbor and DragonFly, to see for yourself how you can add agility to your application deployments with the combined solution.

Get in-depth insights into project direction and roadmap in the deep dive sessions on VMware SIG, Harbor, and Kubernetes IOT Working Group.
