Tanzu Platform AI

Powering the Next Generation of AI Applications with Tanzu Platform 10.3

Across the application landscape, dramatic changes are underway. Data infrastructure is shifting toward specialized vector databases and lakehouses optimized for AI, while data management evolves into dynamic solutions like data fabrics and RAG. AI services are leaping from simple APIs to sophisticated, autonomous systems powered by foundation models and agent frameworks, and AI-driven tools are reshaping application development. Organizations now must balance legacy workloads with emerging technologies, often leading to increased technical debt and skill demands.

VMware Tanzu has long been a leader in innovation, empowering organizations to build and deliver modern, cloud- native applications powered by intelligent data services. Part of this innovation is rooted in the heart of our portfolio with VMware Tanzu Platform. As the industry increasingly adopts these new technologies and different application types, many organizations have turned to Tanzu Platform as the trusted foundation for their most critical applications. At VMware Explore Las Vegas, we are excited to unveil VMware Tanzu Platform 10.3. For modern enterprises, this release will further enhance the ability to deliver, manage, secure, and optimize applications with unprecedented flexibility and observability.

Enhancing platform security, observability, and collaboration

With Tanzu Platform, part of our goal is to simplify fleet management of applications and the environments they depend on, in order to accelerate the pace at which new applications can be deployed with confidence. An effective application platform provides application teams with essential operational control, observability, and insight into their application estate. For Tanzu Platform customers, Tanzu Hub offers comprehensive visibility across applications, services, foundations, and infrastructure, providing more awareness and insights over all workloads, whether they reside in private or public clouds.

This release will enhance platform teams’ visibility into their security posture with a new vulnerability insights dashboard, enabling better triage and remediation of common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVEs). As new vulnerabilities and exposures emerge, platform and application teams are responsible for assessing the business risk, starting with applications, platforms, and infrastructure. The vulnerability insights dashboard is designed to offer unprecedented transparency into the impact of CVEs on Tanzu products and components within your environment, such as stemcells, buildpacks, tiles, foundations, etc. Teams will be able to easily identify affected component versions, impacted foundations, and available patches. These insights will also help streamline the process for platform teams needing to report patch status to meet governance, compliance, and audit requirements.

Figure 1: The Tanzu Vulnerability Insights dashboard introduces a new level of transparency for platform engineering teams into the impact of CVEs on Tanzu products and components.

In this release, Tanzu Hub will also get a significant upgrade with observability dashboards. We are simplifying the experience for foundation health dashboards to offer clear insights into foundation health and to accelerate troubleshooting. These include job details, app instances, BOSH director health, Go router, certificate expiration, UAA, Diego, capacity, and more.

New out-of-the-box dashboards for Tanzu Data services will provide platform engineers with visibility into critical data services that applications rely on. These dashboards show feature resource usage, latency, throughput, and OOTB alerts on potential issues for data services like VMware Tanzu for MySQL, VMware Tanzu for Postgres, VMware Tanzu RabbitMQ, VMware Tanzu for Valkey, and VMware Tanzu GemFire. Collectively, these new dashboards can      provide in-context awareness of data service health, alerts, performance, trends, and bottlenecks.

It doesn’t stop there either. With Tanzu Platform 10.3, we’re also bringing unprecedented cross-team collaboration with a new service publishing feature. Once an application is running on the platform, app developers can “publish” their applications to the Service Marketplace as a curated service offering on the platform. This experience is integrated into the Tanzu Platform Marketplace, and developers can use existing “create” and “bind” functions with the marketplace to consume published services. This first-class service publishing aims to improve developer collaboration, achieve architectural simplification, and enhance application scalability for our customers.

Bringing governance and control to AI applications

Tanzu Platform has long been trusted by customers in highly regulated industries to help them address their governance and compliance burdens. As organizations have operationalized AI applications and services, the need for AI safety in the form of AI model governance, rate limiting, and implementation of quotas becomes increasingly critical.

In this release, we are introducing new enterprise governance features, including AI model quota capabilities and architectural updates that provide for broader AI tool integration, which include inbound and outbound webhooks for inference calls. This will enable platform teams to enhance their AI model governance and incorporate new AI tools. These features aim to provide organizations with greater control, security, and cost management for their AI models throughout the lifecycle, ushering in better compliance and responsible AI practices for scalable and sustainable AI adoption.

Modern applications enable business velocity

This release also builds on our deep understanding of how to enrich and improve the developer experience. While every platform team wants to make the process of building and delivering applications easier, it’s just as crucial to make your application platform one that developers actually want to use.

In June, we announced the integration of Application Advisor with popular developer IDEs via Model Context Protocol (MCP). This integration enables developers to access automated upgrade plans and best practice recommendations for Spring applications, including those deployed to the Tanzu Platform, without requiring context switching. App Advisor revolutionizes the traditionally complex process of modernizing legacy applications, addressing common migration challenges such as manual code audits, dependency issues, and a lack of clear guidance, causing delays and compounding technical debt.

Application technical debt remains a significant challenge for organizations, contributing to increased infrastructure costs, governance and compliance hurdles, and critical skills gaps. Tanzu Platform 10.3 intends to address this by integrating new application onboarding and modernization capabilities directly into Tanzu Hub. This powerful tool set empowers application teams to identify all application types within their estate that would most benefit from modernization and replatforming to improve performance, reduce risk, lower costs, and lessen operational burdens. Using this new tooling, teams will be able to automate replatforming to easily onboard their applications to Tanzu Platform, or even the refactoring, modernization, and migration process.

Tanzu Platform 10.3 represents a significant leap forward, designed to empower modern enterprises to navigate the complexities of today’s application landscape while accelerating innovation. By focusing on enhanced operational control, a bolstered security posture, and a simplified developer experience, this release will enable organizations to confidently build, deliver, and manage a diverse range of applications, from legacy systems to cutting-edge AI-powered services.

Through this continuous innovation, we strive to keep Tanzu Platform the trusted foundation for your most critical applications. With 10.3, we’re working to provide a platform that not only meets the most demanding business requirements but also fosters application velocity and simplicity, enabling both application and platform teams to achieve more with greater ease and efficiency.
