Update to Forecasting: Effective Cost as a Forecast Measure

In Forecasting, we have heard your requests and added the option to choose between seeing “Cost” and “Effective Cost” as forecast measures to ensure users can more clearly understand forecasting results. The option to choose effective cost helps users see projections that include their cloud costs with their amortized costs included and prepaid purchases removed, providing a more accurate estimate of what true costs will look like over the course of the forecast period.

The available cost measures in Forecasting are generally calculated as follows:

    • Effective Cost: Cloud Usage Cost + Amortized Cost – Prepaid purchases
    • Cost (Existing): Cloud Usage cost that includes (Raw cost + Reallocated cost + Chargeback cost)

New FlexReports Dataset for Partners: CloudHealth Consumption Report

We are pleased to announce a new Multicloud FlexReport dataset to help partners reconcile invoices for their customers, the CloudHealth Consumption Report.  Previously known as the Aggregated Monthly Cloud Usage Report and provided at month end, this per cloud breakdown of customer spend can be used to reconcile CloudHealth invoice. To locate the dataset, create a new report in FlexReports and select “CloudHealth Consumption Report” as the datasource. From there, available measures and dimensions can be added. Please note that this dataset is only available for Partners using Tanzu CloudHealth.

Tanzu CloudHealth at FinOps X

Tanzu CloudHealth was well represented at FinOps X as a Gold Sponsor, with a large booth in the Expo, a breakout session with our customer at Cisco, and plenty of lively discussions with the FinOps community. As it has done every year since its inception, the event exceeded all expectations and provided an amazing forum to learn and network. The keynotes were full of interesting discussions and significant announcements, and the Thursday evening party on the USS Midway was incredibly memorable both for the setting and the Top Gun characters in attendance. An Enhanced & Redefined Tanzu CloudHealth User Experience

One of the highlights of FinOps X was demonstrating our new user experience live to attendees. This new experience brings new features and capabilities that equip FinOps practitioners and cloud operations teams with the solution they need to continuously manage and optimize their multi-cloud environments. It provides a new, modern user interface that enables action on pressing items across multiple clouds quickly and informs decision-making with relevant contextual data that does not require additional navigation. The new Tanzu CloudHealth experience will initially be available in Tech Preview, and interested customers can reach out to their account team to request more information.
