Today, we are announcing that the GenAI for Tanzu Application Service private beta program is now available! The magic of GenAI can be right at your developers’ fingertips with Generative AI-style applications running inside a Tanzu Application Service foundation.
What’s available today within the GenAI for Tanzu Application Service beta?
As mentioned in our preview blog last year, we shared our vision for the future of GenAI for Tanzu Application Service. We are thrilled to list the following functionality is currently live within the beta:
-
Supports vSphere, Google Cloud Platform, and Amazon Web Services. We are working on adding support for Microsoft Azure in the near future
-
Utilizes BOSH to deploy large language models (LLMs) alongside your Tanzu Application Service foundation
-
Currently utilizes FastChat to run a private Open-AI compatible API for applications to call
-
Secure and private access to these LLMs utilizing your existing Tanzu Application Service network space inside your data centers or virtual private clouds. This eliminates the need to send your intellectual property and data to an external or third-party API or service
-
Extending your Tanzu Application Service marketplace with the GenAI tile that provides developers self-service access to bind applications to these LLMs
-
Developers can continue to use their familiar
cf push
andcf service-binding
workflows to deploy and manage applications using generative AI-style features running on Tanzu Application Service -
Continuing to explore avenues to deploy GenAI for Tanzu Application Service solutions on top of VMware Private AI Foundations to expand our support for additional hardware and with more partners
Don’t just take our word!

Customers Bringing GenAI to Life
Tanzu Application Service customers are interested in exploring how GenAI can impact their development teams, and we’ve been successfully collaborating with customers to understand and implement GenAI use cases.
Within the beta, we've noted successful deployment of the solution to the platform, and are working on enabling development teams to leverage this service in the Cloud Foundry ecosystem in the future. Through this beta program, our participants have witnessed how GenAI functionality can simplify their application workloads and utilize it towards real-world use cases, such as simplifying internal reporting and IT systems, so their employees can get IT support even faster.
It all Started with the VMware Explore Hackathon
At VMware Explore Barcelona 2023, we shared a preview of GenAI for Tanzu Application Service (beta) with customers and during our Hackathon competition (spoiler alert: we placed first!) where the team successfully deployed a GenAI tile in a Tanzu Application Service environment. We had a great time chatting with customers and attendees interested in using GenAI to make it easier for their development teams to build AI applications.
