If you are a Finops geek, chances are you have already heard of FOCUS by now. If you haven’t, FOCUS™ (FinOps Cost and Usage Specification) is an open-source cloud billing data specification aligned with the FinOps Framework, establishing a unified schema for cloud cost, usage, and billing data across all major cloud service providers. Simply put, FOCUS is a pain-staking effort by kind and passionate individuals to make multi-cloud reporting less of a nightmare.
If you have a multi-cloud ecosystem and are a user of VMware Tanzu CloudHealth (good choice, by the way), you are in luck!
We are thrilled to introduce our FOCUS FlexReports template for AWS, Azure, and GCP (note that these links require platform authentication). With these templates, you will be able to take your existing cloud bills and turn them into your own FOCUS-compliant cost reports in mere minutes. In doing so, you will be making your multi-cloud cost reporting that much easier (and surely impressing your manager!).
To take advantage of these templates, simply follow these steps:
-
Click on FlexReports on your left-hand navigation (under “Reports”)
-
Click on “View Templates” on the right-hand upper corner of the FlexReports landing page
-
Search for “FOCUS” on the search bar of the Templates page. This will bring up each of the templates for AWS, Azure, and GCP. Select the template for the cloud you want.
-
Click on “Filters” (highlighted in blue) to filter based on existing FOCUS-compliant columns.
-
You can filter on as many conditions you’d like and when you’re done click Apply on the top right corner.
-
You may export or share (marked in orange) the report.
Note: FOCUS dictates specific rules for timeranges which our templates are currently not in compliance with.
As Tanzu CloudHealth makes it easy to export your FlexReports from the platform, you can go a step further and build a consolidated multi-cloud FOCUS report using these templates. Simply export the reports for the clouds that you use so you can share this report with finance teams, lines of business owners, and executives in a format that is quick to digest and understand. Not only will you be making it easier for collaborators to understand your company’s cloud cost and usage, but you will be championing FinOps best practices across your organization!
