Saadat Malik

Saadat Malik is VP and General Manager of VMware by Broadcom’s Edge Computing Business in the Software-Defined Edge division. His group is focused on addressing customers’ needs at the edge, leveraging VMware by Broadcom’s portfolio of market-leading products by customizing them for edge environments, as well as entirely new products purpose-built for the edge. VMware by Broadcom helps customers unlock the full potential of the edge with vertically focused solutions that are a standard for ease of deployment, security, and operational efficiency at scale—driving outcomes that fundamentally transform how VMware by Broadcom’s customers conduct their businesses. Examples of edge environments where these solutions are deployed include manufacturing plant floors, retail store locations, bank branch offices, electric power substations, and battlefields. Saadat’s group builds products keeping in view the unique people, process, and technology challenges that customers face in these edge locations. These challenges include those related to the type and size of hardware that can be accommodated in these environments, physical security challenges related to housing the technology, communications requirements in terms of latency and bandwidth, proprietary and legacy protocols, IT staff availability in these locations, and finally, cultural dynamics associated with the convergence of Information Technology (IT) and Operations Technology (OT). VMware by Broadcom focuses on addressing these challenges, creating a friction-free experience for its clients looking to continuously transform their businesses through new and differentiated outcomes coming out of the edge. Saadat is one of the pioneering leaders in the edge space. He has been involved in building out businesses and partnering with customers in IoT and edge for the past 20 years. This has included starting and building out the IoT Services organization at Cisco and the GreenLake Cloud Intelligent Edge business at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). Both these businesses drove hyper-growth not only for Cisco and for HPE but also for clients leveraging highly differentiated and ground-breaking products and solutions coming out of these two organizations. The Cisco IoT group did first-of-its-kind work in several areas of Edge and IoT in verticals ranging from Electric Utilities, Oil & Gas, Transportation, Manufacturing to Smart Cities, among others. The Intelligent Edge business at HPE was recognized by the analyst community as the #1 Edge Solutions and Services organization in the world in 2021. Saadat is the author of a best-selling book on Security and Risk Management, “Network Security Principles and Practices” and co-authored United States’ National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) of 2006. In 2022, Saadat won HPE’s ‘GreenLake & PointNext’ Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Saadat holds an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MSEE) from Purdue University at West Lafayette.
