The Gartner® report Top Network Practices to Support Hybrid Work is now available on the VMware SASE website. This informative document lays out some key technical and architectural suggestions that infrastructure and operations leaders can follow to help hybrid and fully remote employees succeed.

Hybrid work will remain, so how do we make it better?

The numbers indicate that hybrid work is here to stay. In the report, Gartner predicts that “by 2026, 75% of workers will continue to split time between home and traditional office locations.” It’s likely that you have read multiple business news articles that align with their forecast. For example:

In the report Top Network Practices to Support Hybrid Work, Gartner suggests that companies need to embrace new approaches to make hybrid work successful, including:

  • Optimizing the performance, security and availability of employees’ home networks with solutions including SASE and SD-WAN
  • Improving visibility into remote users’ experience, to provide them better support
  • Embracing zero-trust principles to harden network security
  • Establishing minimum connectivity standards that apply to both in-office and remote employees

The VMware philosophy: better tools for better experiences

VMware SASE™ and VMware SD-WAN™ are built for the distributed workforce. No matter where employees or their enterprise apps are located, consistent performance, connectivity and security should be top of mind. VMware solutions are market-leading, popular, and trusted by customers worldwide.

  • VMware provides two options for remote access with mobile devices:
    • VMware Secure Access™ integrates with VMware Workspace ONE for zero-trust capabilities with managed remote devices. It offers multiple benefits over traditional VPN solutions: it’s cloud-hosted, location-independent, and significantly reduces attack surfaces by granting access based on zero trust principles.
    • The VMware SD-WAN Client is a simple, secure, and high-performance remote access service, also built with zero trust, to securely connect remote workers’ endpoints and mobile devices without hardware edges.
  • The Tolly Group tested VMware SD-WAN for remote-access performance. Testing proved that VMware SD-WAN can successfully remediate significant packet loss and latency/jitter for VoIP calls over dual WAN links. Even with 10% packet loss on both links, VMware SD-WAN maintained a good voice quality score.
  • Integrated AIOps in VMware Edge Network Intelligence™ collects application performance and uses network statistics to understand and communicate root causes of remote network issues—even down to understanding the Wi-Fi networks of work-from-home employees.
  • VMware and its partners provide over 200 points of presence (PoPs) around the world to simplify connectivity to the cloud and SaaS. The PoPs have direct paths to cloud and SaaS providers, for low-latency handoff without the need for IT to deploy SD-WAN resources in cloud provider networks.
