VMware SD-WAN Named a Top Choice by Global Analyst Firm

We’re pleased to share that VMware SD-WAN has again been named a leader by a highly respected, technology-focused industry analyst. In its broad review of the international SD-WAN landscape, GigaOm named VMware as a key SD-WAN provider in the space in its report, GigaOm Radar for SD-WAN Platforms. The GigaOm report evaluated 15 vendors across 17 criteria on their SD-WAN product or service. VMware SD-WAN received the highest score in the Evaluation Metrics Comparison category, recognized for outstanding focus and execution in areas such as scalability, ease of use, TCO, and more. Additionally, it was named one of only three vendors in the Outperformer position and among the highest in the Vendor Positioning and Key Criteria categories.

A core component of VMware SASE, cloud-delivered VMware SD-WAN simplifies day-to-day network management and boosts user/application experience — at a substantially lower cost than private WAN links. IT teams leverage SD-WAN for numerous reasons including:

  • Optimized cloud architecture. Teams can use any link, including 5G, MPLS or broadband Internet to build secure, high-performance connections between end-users and branch locations with the cloud.
  • Simplified deployment. Powered by automation and centralized provisioning, VMware SD-WAN accelerates deployment and decreases the need for costly, dedicated personnel to service remote sites.
  • Visibility. Using the VMware SD-WAN Orchestrator, teams view their entire network landscape, harnessing in-depth, real-time analytics that produce actionable insights.
  • Improved security. VMware SD-WAN’s built-in security features helps teams execute network segmentation and minimize their network’s attack surface.
  • Quality of experience (QoE). VMware SD-WAN provides assured app performance over WANs with real-time remediation and traffic steering, ensuring enhanced QoE.

The GigaOm report cited several competitive differentiators of VMware SASE and VMware SD-WAN including:

Global presence. Offering a unique global network of more than 3,000 cloud gateways across 150+ SASE points of presence (PoPs) from VMware and its partners around the world, VMware SASE has the global reach to provide new networking and security services. The solution provides faster response time and better performance with numerous cloud-based applications — supporting 85% of the world’s major   metropolitan areas with a sub-10ms response. PoPs also defend and process end-user traffic, protecting networks from harmful attacks and users from serious Internet threats.

Fully managed solution. VMware SD-WAN is easily rolled out, powered by automation, and features centralized management that speeds deployment and reduces requirements for dedicated staff at remote sites. Per the report, the solution is “well-regarded and reduce[s] headaches,” allowing customers to focus on their own competencies — leaving the networking to dedicated experts. Alternatively, customers can manage it themselves.

Dynamic Multipath Optimization (DMPO): VMware’s patented DMPO protocol provides deep application recognition (DAR), continuous real-time link monitoring, and application traffic steering based on current network conditions. Additionally, it performs link degradation remediation through forward error correction — ensuring sub-second protection against packet loss to boost app availability.
