Announcing VMware SD-WAN Edge 710: Enterprise-Class Edge Appliance for Branch Networking, Security, and AIOps

We are excited to announce the availability of our latest SD-WAN appliance, the VMware SD-WAN Edge 710. This new entry-level SD-WAN appliance is designed to provide secure, reliable, scalable, and high-performance WAN connectivity for enterprise networks of all sizes. It is expected to be generally available in February 2024.

The Edge 710 incorporates cutting-edge technologies including Wi-Fi 6 capabilities. It offers superior price-to-performance value and increased network performance up to 1 Gbps for improved user experience across small, remote branch and work from home deployments.

Higher bandwidth and throughput with lower latency

This innovative VMware SD-WAN Edge benefits from integrated Wi-Fi 6 capabilities. Enterprises now can address higher bandwidth and higher density deployments by connecting more devices (mobile devices, laptops, IOT devices, POS machines, etc.) while providing increased coverage, higher throughput and lower latency that reduces the need to deploy multiple access points for reduced TCO and simplified management. Enterprises can scale up their VMware SD-WAN platform as business requirements grow – without truck rolls or service disruptions.

One of the key innovations of the Edge 710 is its ability to combine multiple functions in a single, compact unit. This powerful appliance consolidates SD-WAN, firewall, router, switch, and Wi-Fi functions into one high performance, integrated appliance. This not only aids in reducing clutter and easing management but can contribute to substantial cost savings.

Intelligence and integration across VMware SASE with single-console management

Tightly integrated with VMware Edge Intelligence (formerly VMware Edge Network Intelligence), the Edge 710 uses AI and ML technology to offer deep visibility and analytics of endpoints and IoT devices, with generative AI capabilities for AIOps (see our press release from VMware Explore Barcelona for more details). This means your organization can remain ahead of the curve by leveraging actionable insights for seamless network management.

As a part of VMware SASE, Enhanced Edge Firewall Service and other services are being integrated into the VMware Edge Cloud Orchestrator, which manages VMware SD-WAN™, VMware SD-Access™, VMware Cloud Web Security™, VMware Edge Intelligence™, and VMware Edge Compute Stack™. VMware Edge Cloud Orchestrator is an industry-first offering that will create a friction-free bridge between edge networking, security, and compute to help customers plan, deploy, run, visualize, and manage edge environments. It is a foundational component to enable VMware SD-WAN and SASE as the intelligent overlay for VMware Software Defined-Edge.

Note that the minimum software version required for Edge 710 is VMware SASE Release 5.2.1.
