Yesterday was the day of big announcements, the popular general session, and keynotes. Today was back to business as usual (if you can call getting around 10,000 VMware enthusiasts together in the same place “usual.”). Attendees enjoyed multiple sessions, booth presentations, and hands-on labs that showcased the capabilities and outcomes of VMware SASE™, VMware SD-WAN™, VMware Edge Compute Stack™, VMware Edge Network Intelligence™, VMware Cloud Web Security™, and VMware Private Mobile Network™.
Over the course of the day, AI and opportunities for edge computing emerged as strong themes. Read on to get a glimpse of highlights from the day.
VMware SASE and SD-WAN
VMware SASE VP and GM Abe Ankumah presented a roadmap session with special guest Dave Floyd, VP of Enterprise Sales at Hughes Network Systems. Floyd outlined the work Hughes Managed Services has done with VMware SASE to make Hughes customers successful, including a financial services customer with 1400+ branches in almost every U.S. state. Hughes was able to implement VMware SD-WAN for benefits including improved visibility, proactive application remediation, and device inventory tracking with VMware Edge Network Intelligence – within 100 days and with an average install time per branch of less than 10 minutes.
The roadmap session also outlined plans for VMware SASE products to use AI to help our customers lighten the administrative load. Stay tuned for more to come!
The session Teleradiology: Ensuring Dependable Workflows for Remote Radiologists continued to expand on SASE capabilities in healthcare. Abe Ankumah welcomed Peter Shen, Head of Digital & Automation North America, Siemens Healthineers, and Kellie Larkin, Associate Vice President, Providence. They discussed the need for more automation, AI, and technology to enable remote work in healthcare, especially in radiology. Larkin pointed to Providence’s success with VMware SD-WAN, noting that SD-WAN has enabled his organization to bring healthcare to rural and underserved communities without worrying about the network underlay.
In the session, VMware Director for Healthcare and Life Sciences BreAnne Buehl announced a new offering: VMware for Radiology. Keep an eye on the VMware Healthcare web page to learn more about this game-changing offering that includes VMware SD-WAN and VMware Edge Network Intelligence.
VMware Cloud Web Security
In The State of the Art for Securing Internet and SaaS Applications, the presenters noted that users are like water: they always find a way through the cracks. How do you protect enterprise data when your users can be working from anywhere, on any device? VMware Cloud Web Security is a cloud-hosted service that protects users and infrastructure accessing SaaS and Internet applications from a changing threat landscape. It offers IT teams visibility and control, and ensures compliance, when users access SaaS applications. VMware Cloud Web Security is delivered through a global network of VMware Edge PoPs™ to ensure optimal access to applications.
A new vision for the software-defined edge
What’s New in Edge Compute Stack? proposed VMware’s bold vision for the software-defined edge: to help customers unlock the full potential of the edge with vertically focused solutions that become the standard for ease of deployment, security and operational efficiency. Saadat Malik, VP and GM of the VMware Edge Compute business, declared that VMware is building a platform that will help our customers achieve business outcomes at the edge in a friction-free manner.
An important part of this vision is VMware Edge Cloud Orchestrator, an industry-first offering that will create a friction-free bridge between edge networking, security, and compute that will help customers plan, deploy, run, visualize, and manage edge environments. Read more about it in our blog post, Manage the Software-Defined Edge with VMware Edge Cloud Orchestrator.
