Today on average an employee spends 80% of the time collaborating and four times as many electronic devices are in use per user. Where you work from has become less important, but how effective you are working from a destination workplace has gained significance. The distributed hybrid work environment is here to stay as 50% of organizations expect the work-from-home population to be permanently larger than pre-pandemic levels. With an increasing number of devices, the collaborative work environment, and the distributed nature of work, you need a robust digital infrastructure to connect users to their applications. Enterprise IT has the responsibility to ensure the workforce stays connected, safe and productive at all times.
VMware SASE™ addresses these objectives for IT by providing users with secure, reliable and efficient access to all applications from any location. Apart from connecting users to their applications the solution offers crucial visibility into the user experience. VMware Edge Network Intelligence™ is an AIOps solution of VMware SASE that gives deep visibility into the user experience without the need to undertake any physical or virtual “IT visit”.
“VMware Edge Network Intelligence integration provides enhanced visibility to application experience signals for Microsoft Teams, allowing customers to target their troubleshooting efforts and infrastructure investments to enable a world-class collaboration experience. This is the first step in our collaboration which will enable increased transparency of application experience across Microsoft 365, providing even greater value to our joint customers.”
Jim Kleewein, Technical Fellow, Microsoft
Enterprises globally use Microsoft Teams as a vital tool for communication and collaboration. IT needs deeper visibility into user experience when organizations use Teams. VMware has integrated the Teams experience data provided through Microsoft 365 informed network routing with VMware Edge Network Intelligence. For an enterprise with hundreds or thousands of employees geographically distributed across multiple regions it is imperative for IT to know if the entire workforce, or a subset of the workforce, has any issues related to a specific application. This integration will provide deep visual evidence into any specific users’ experience with Teams. VMware Edge Network Intelligence analyzes many factors influencing deviation in user experience. The solution helps determine if there are problems specific to a site, isolated to a wireless location, affected by network services or impacted by Teams itself.
Integration with Microsoft 365 informed network routing allows for further visibility to other experiences beyond Teams, and we plan to expand to include other critical Microsoft productivity apps within VMware Edge Network Intelligence. Additionally, the experience signals provided by Microsoft will allow us to deliver exciting enhancements and new value within VMware SD-WAN routing.
“Our partnership with Microsoft helps IT enhance visibility into the user experience across their distributed work environment. This integration will help customers get a step closer on their journey to self-healing networks.”
Craig Connors, VP and General Manager, VMware SASE and Edge
VMware Edge Network Intelligence uses machine learning to automatically detect end-user devices and baseline user experience, monitor for deviation, alert and assist operations, and to proactively remediate and self-heal the network. VMware Edge Network Intelligence gathers data related to user experience from different vantage points like wireless LAN, wired LAN, SD-WAN, network services and the applications to provide deeper and wider insights on user performance, isolate faults, and pinpoint issues.
Apart from getting visibility into the user experience with Teams at each site within their organization, IT will be able to compare experiences across different sites and across peers in the industry. These insights will help IT perform proactive remediation to improve user experience and embark on a journey to transform the infrastructure into a self-healing network. The integrated solution will reduce the operational burden and help keep the distributed workforce productive, while putting some time back on IT operations’ clock.
