In Retrospect: Dell Technologies World 2019 – Moving Toward Simplification and Stronger Integration

Dell Technologies World (DTW) hosted over 15,000 tech innovators in Las Vegas, and VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud was there to be part of the magic.

Dell is reshaping IT organizations by providing tools to simplify and integrate in a better way. It announced that the cloud landscape is expanding and it is leveraging relationships with VMware and Microsoft to take advantage of the expansion. With these partnerships and integrations, IT organizations will have the power to use an integrated cloud solution delivered by these three vendors.

Dell also announced the “unified workspace solution.” This will help IT infrastructure teams deploy, manage, support, and automate day-to-day tasks and secure all devices centrally from the cloud. For the end user, this brings flexibility of using any device from anywhere in a secure manner.

Another trend discussed at DTW is that workloads are moving to the cloud, giving customers more flexibility and access to these workloads from anywhere in a secure way. Customers are accessing these workloads from home office, branch office and can leverage VMware SD-WAN’s solution to access private/public cloud in an optimized and secure way.

SD-WAN

Let’s expand a bit on VMware SD-WAN. Dell announced at the conference that it was entering the SD-WAN field with its own SD-WAN hardware, powered by VMware SD-WAN ® by VeloCloud™. To end customers, it means that the VMware SD-WAN Edge software will come pre-loaded on Dell platforms.

Podcast: SD-WAN 360

While at DTW, I had the pleasure of recording two SD-WAN 360 podcast episodes. On Monday, I met with VMware COO Sanjay Poonen. On Tuesday, I met with VeloCloud co-founder and current VMware SD-WAN VP and GM, Sanjay Uppal. The key takeaway from both of these leaders is that VeloCloud SD-WAN is the industry leader due its solution simplicity, unique cloud gateway architecture, application performance for SAAS cloud, and now tighter integration with Dell hardware.

Book Signing

On day two, I had the pleasure of meeting numerous Dell partners and customers during the signing session of my SD-WAN book “SD-WAN, The Networking Blueprint for Modern Businesses.” Within 30 minutes, I signed around 150 copies the book, which discusses how SD-WAN is the platform of choice for so many organizations across multiple verticals like retail, healthcare, IoT, construction and more. It is currently available on the Amazon book store.

Hands on Lab (HOL)

We introduced our VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud Hands on Lab (HOL) at Dell Technologies World. As co-Lab Captain, I was able to interact with numerous attendees and had great SD-WAN discussions throughout the event with partners and customers. The VMware SD-WAN HOL was in the top 10 of most attended labs.

Overall, this was a great event and we look forward to attending again next year.
