Network topologies have been modernized by adopting SD-WAN solutions and traditional premises-based communication, and collaboration tools have made way for unified, cloud solutions: unified communications as a service (UCaaS). The combination of SD-WAN and UCaaS provides customers with enterprise-grade reliability and optimized quality of service (QoS) for their voice and video communications.
To better deliver this value to customers, VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud and RingCentral, both born in the cloud and purpose-built to support cloud-growth from the ground-up, greatly improve the UCaaS performance using a variety of technologies. But don’t just take our word for the improvement that customers realize with the combined services.
Recently, RingCentral tested various UCaaS scenarios using multiple transport options with SD-WAN. In each test (which included DSL, cable, and dual broadband connections), while packet loss declined, VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud was able to repair the connection using VMware Dynamic Multi-Path Optimization (DMPO) and provide MOS scores no lower than 3.8 for any given test.
In the first scenario, RingCentral tested a single DSL circuit. While the raw MOS score dropped over time as the packet loss increased to 3.1, VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud was able to remediate the connection, elevating the score to around 4.2.
In the second scenario, RingCentral tested a single cable circuit. While the raw MOS score dropped over time again as the packet loss increased to 3.1, VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud was able to remediate the connection, keeping a constant MOS score to 4.2.
In the third scenario, RingCentral tested dual circuits, a standard configuration for remote branch offices. As the packet loss increased to up to 15%, VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud was able to keep the connection quality high at above 4.0 and dropping only slightly to 3.8 when packet loss was at its highest. When it comes to voice communications, even a 2% packet loss can significantly impact the user experience. Utilizing dynamic sub-second, per-packet steering is critical to ensure quality.
RingCentral’s NOC teams and dedicated engineering resources focus relentlessly on delivering quality of service with smart call routing and 24/7/365 quality metrics monitoring across all modes of communications. RingCentral has established its own backbone and developed its own peering relationships to provide enterprise-grade reliability and quality of service.
RingCentral has been named a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Unified Communications as a Service, Worldwide with a position furthest to the right within the Leader quadrant for its completeness of vision and ability to execute. To download your complimentary report, click here.
