VMware is very excited to announce that it has been named a Leader in the new 2018 Gartner Magic Quadrant for WAN Edge Infrastructure. The report, profiling 20 vendors, recognized VMware, as a Leader in both ability to execute and completeness of vision, and VMware’s position was placed furthest in Completeness of Vision.
Enterprises seek infrastructure solutions that evolve with changing needs. WAN Edge Infrastructure has moved away from traditional hardware implementations, paving the way for software-defined versions that are highly scalable, resilient, flexible, and simply managed. VMware’s drive to provide a solution that delivers all these requirements with an endless runway for future developments has elevated it as a leader in the SD-WAN space.
VeloCloud, now part of VMware began with the idea to remedy branch networking issues because the networks of yesterday were optimized to haul traffic back to the datacenter, not to the cloud where applications of today are housed. SD-WAN has solved for this issue amongst a plethora of others, becoming a technology disruptor in a way that nothing else has in decades. SD-WAN has, in a very small period of time, transitioned from a networking “nice-to-have” to a necessary component of the network infrastructure, providing the connectivity across cloud, data center, branches, end user, and applications regardless of where they will be used.
With SD-WAN, end customers are finally able to rethink their WAN, adopting a software-defined approach that supports not only better connectivity, lower costs, increased efficiency and turning IT into a profit center, but also the ability to embrace and execute on technology initiatives that the networks of yesterday were unable to sustain.
“By year-end 2023, more than 90% of WAN edge infrastructure refresh initiatives will be base don virtualized customer premises equipment (vCPE) platforms or software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) software/appliances versus traditional routers (up from less than 40% today),” quotes Gartner.
VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud will continue to leverage key differentiators (cloud-delivered architecture, marketing, and culture) in addition to its deep connections with its large customer-base and network of service provider partners to be a visionary in the space and execute on its clear vision for the future.
VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud continues to be a leading SD-WAN platform of choice among customers and partners. It continues to differentiate itself in the industry by:
- Developing a deep and robust security partner ecosystem that include best-of-breed solutions from Palo Alto Networks, Zscaler, and Check Point.
- Deliver complete and resilient solutions with a service provider community that includes AT&T, Vonage, and Windstream.
- Announcing collaborations with industry leader Microsoft to connect and protect applications, data and users across branch locations, and Microsoft Azure.
- Integrate with other VMware technologies including NSX Data Center (microsegmentation), NSX Cloud, and End User Computing.
- Become the lynchpin to VMware’s Virtual Cloud Networking, connecting all network components, clouds, and nodes to deliver seamless, efficient, connectivity everywhere.
