Are you applying for VCDX?

VCDX merchThe next VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX) application deadline is coming up quick! If you’re interested in defending a design in June, be sure to complete your application and design by April 1.

With the application deadline looming, there are most likely some questions regarding the next defense session. I want to answer those questions here, and formally announce what will be accepted for the October defenses.

First off, if you don’t feel quite ready to submit your design by next week, there’s no need to rush — especially if it’s incomplete or if you are uncomfortable with it. You will still be able to use it for the next defense session in October. All current VCDX versions will be accepted for the October defenses (applications are due Aug 25). This includes the VCDX5-DCV, VCDX-Cloud, VCDX-DT, and VCDX-NV.

This means that, with the waiver of the VCAPs for the VCDX-Cloud and VCDX-DT, you can still take advantage of those waivers for the October session.

When the new versions of the VCDX certifications are announced later, there will be retirement dates set for these current VCDX versions. However, those retirement dates will not be before the August application deadline, in order to accept any designs being worked on now and throughout the summer (or winter, if you’re in the southern hemisphere).

Note that although the current versions have a blueprint on, for example, vSphere 5 or vCloud Director, you can still submit a design that includes vSphere 6 or vRealize Automation. In other words, you may submit a design with more recent versions of products, which will most likely be included in the VCDX6 version blueprints. However, you will only receive the current VCDX version, based on the prerequisite certifications you have earned. But this does give you an opportunity to take the upgrade path to v6 when available!

Hopefully this answers some of the questions that you may have had. You can always ask any other questions or make suggestions in the comments below or by sending an email to [email protected].
