Getting More Out of vRealize Operations Standard and Advanced – the Webinar
By Jack White
On November 16th, we will be hosting a Getting More Out of vRealize Operations Standard and Advanced webinar (click here to register). The topics covered in this session are provided here:
- Options for Standard vs Advanced
- Modifying the vRealize Operations License
- Customization of Dashboards and Reports at a high level
- How Projects (What-If Scenarios) can affect Time Remaining and Capacity Remaining scores
- The integration of VIN and Log Insight
- Endpoint Operations for the collection of additional metrics
- High level view of additional policy items
In this session, we go over some of the differences in vRealize Operations Standard and Advanced. We spend time showing some of the options within the Standard version. We show how some management packs are available at the Standard versions and how the Endpoint Operations agent applies at the Standard version.
With the Advanced version, we discuss how to extend the capabilities of vRealize Operations with management packs as well as some of the additional data the Endpoint Operations agent can bring additional metrics over the Standard version. The image below shows the public repository of management packs at Solution Exchange.
vRealize Operations Standard and Advanced versions
Both Standard and Advanced versions of the product offer similar capabilities within the vSphere environment. The Advanced version allows a company to extend capabilities beyond the vSphere environment through management packs. The management packs allow for physical resources to be integrated along with the virtual environment. With the Advanced version, one can now create custom dashboards and reports. These options are not available in the Standard version as seen in the images below. With the Advanced version, vRealize Operations also includes vRealize Log Insight and vRealize Infrastructure Navigator.
vRealize Log Insight
vRealize Log Insight allows for the integration of log data. Logs are unstructured data and often difficult to peruse. With vRealize Log Insight, searching all logs simultaneously, creating alerts from queries and integrating the queries with vRealize Operations management resources are a reality. With this combination, we can correlate log data with the performance data in vRealize Operations management.
vRealize Infrastructure Navigator
With vRealize Infrastructure Navigator, we dynamically discover vSphere resource relationships. This provides insight into the relationship one virtual machine may have with another virtual machine. With this data, we can create applications, know what services and ports are available on the virtual resources and see that relationship in vCenter Server as well as vRealize Operations Manager.
In the end, we show the ease to change the Standard license with an Advanced license. Once a license is changed, the license cache period is approximately one hour. You may wait for the cache to update or you may restart vRealize Operations Manager to enforce the updated license.
