The Management Pack for SAP extends the power of the vRealize Operations Manager platform to SAP. Here are three ways to use vRealize Operations to monitor and manage your SAP environment.
- Relationships
On the highest level, the Management Pack for SAP allows you to group your SAP systems into landscapes, for example DEV, QAS, and PROD. This grouping allows faults and metrics to be aggregated across landscapes. While SAP administrators often group their systems in this manner, it can be complicated and time-consuming to manually collect and assemble data across systems. The Management Pack simplifies this process, allowing administrators to more easily view metrics across landscapes.
On the lower levels, the Management Pack associates SAP systems and SAP hosts with SAP Instances and databases. Instances are, in turn, automatically associated with virtual machines. From the virtual layer, you can then make connections out to the storage and compute layers, creating a view of the entire stack.
Having these relationships built into the management pack makes isolating a problem as trivial as looking for the orange and red dots.
2. Red Alert
Within the Management Pack, native SAP alerts integrate into the vRealize Operations interface.
This alerts warns us that the average number of page-ins per second exceeds a threshold of 90.
Beyond the alerts coming directly from SAP, the Management Pack works in concert with vRealize to warn you when metrics are out of the norm. You don’t have to set thresholds; vRealize learns normal for your system based on patterns over time and alerts you if metrics move outside of their normal range.
3. Predictive Analytics
The Management Pack for SAP implements Analysis badges for Workload, Capacity, Stress and more. Workload shows you where things stand right now. Capacity shows long term trends. Stress shows you when you are consistently overloaded, day-by-day, hour-by-hour.
These three badges utilize the predictive analytics engine of vRealize Operations to inform administrators of important needs, like physical memory expansion.
The Management Pack for SAP, and the vRealize Operations platform help you stay ahead of problems in your SAP systems, and enables you to quickly solve problems when they do occur.
