It’s VMworld time again! At last year’s event I was surprised how many customers stopped by our booth asking, “I have virtualized my environment, what’s next?” Since then 1,000’s of customers have joined us in the journey to the cloud.
While virtualization is mostly driven by the desire to reduce complexity, cost and also to improve high availability, the driver for the cloud is predominantly agility. In our experience, there are three main types of projects customers choose to on-board the cloud:
- Automating the virtualized environment
- Creating an IaaS / PaaS with on-demand service consumption capabilities
- Establishing IT as a broker of services
Infrastructure teams want an extensible solution to automate IT service delivery with governance and across clouds. However, what about the middleware, databases and applications? Clearly more is needed. Application teams want to use this framework provided by the infrastructure teams to provision applications and changes.
