Organizations today are increasingly dependent on digital technologies to generate revenue and support customers who always expect applications and data to be available. Disaster recovery (DR) and Business continuity (BC) are closely related. Mission-critical data has no time for downtime! DR for BC enables an organization’s ability to reduce effects of disruptions and outages while remaining operational after an adverse/disruptive event or an unexpected interruption. Organizations, in today’s 7×24-always online global digital economy, must have the resiliency to get back online immediately after problems occurs, reduce the risk of data loss as well as reputational harm, and improve operations while decreasing the chance of emergencies. Application and data availability is crucial/critical during seasonal holidays e.g.: Thanksgiving, Christmas etc. when business and demand are at peak levels.
Furthermore, also customers in regulatory and compliance industries – Healthcare (HIPAA), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), as well as U.S. federal agencies – must provide 100% uptime and availability for application and data to ensure protection of patient’s health information, financial data as well as continuity of operations during essential government emergencies (such as terrorist attacks, severe weather etc.). Also, security is of utmost importance as cyber-attacks appear to continue disrupting business operations.
Ensuring the availability of applications, data and services to customers, organizations not only are protecting their revenue streams but also gain competitive positioning and reputation.
For the reasons stated above, every organization today (big and small) has some sort of disaster recovery plan and strategy for achieving resiliency. This means the ability to guard the business (applications, data, and infrastructure) against major, long-lasting business impacts and immediately respond and adapt to changing patterns. In our webinar we discuss how VMware’s NSX Advanced Load Balancer with GSLB and its pertinent cloud services implementation enables enterprises (globally) to deliver applications with resiliency, availability, reliability as well as security in today’s digital economy and 7×24 online world.
VMware NSX Advanced Load Balancer is cloud-native SaaS (Software as a Service) offering that can be deployed on-prem and in any cloud (public and private). It uses a software-defined architecture that separates the central control plane (Controller) from the distributed data plane (Service Engines). NSX ALB is 100% REST API based, making it fully automatable and seamless with the CI/CD pipeline for application delivery. Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) is the act of balancing an application’s load across instances of the application that have been deployed to multiple locations. Application load at any one of those locations is usually managed by a local load balancer.
Our solution eliminates the headache of procuring, managing, and maintaining hardware, significantly reducing Admin time while increasing productivity and availability of applications, data, and services.
VMware NSX ALB Is excited to announce DR on Demand. This is a new cost-efficient way to utilize GSLB and NSX ALB Cloud Service Pulse Central licensing capacity to ensure fast, reliable and cost-effective DR.
NSX ALB Pulse Central Licensing service is a service that enables you as a customer to manage and distribute all your Cloud Service enabled Service units from a central location. This unique service enables you to pull SU from one NSX ALB controller and then use them in another. This is very relevant to the DR Use case. Traditionally customers will have one or more Active sites and then a DR site. To have a truly resilient architecture the DR site must match the Active site, and this not only includes applications but also the infrastructure that said applications run on. This infrastructure specifically in the load balancer space may be legacy hardware appliances or as in the case with NSX ALB software appliances. This infrastructure must be paid for and licensed in a similar manner to the active site. The DR site is then not used until a rare DR event or for testing. This means that a significant expense has been accrued and the infrastructure is rarely used.
What if you only had to pay for what you used? What if you could migrate your licenses from the Active Site to the DR site with a touch of a button or an API call? What about if you could tie this into GSLB and enable flawless failover?
With NSX ALB with Cloud Services you can do all these things. DR site failover can be triggered automatically with GSLB health checks or manually with priority groups. When a failover event occurs, licenses from the Active site are released back into the central pool and then can be consumed by the DR site. The NSX ALB Controller in the DR site now has the licenses to spin up SE which it does as the site comes online – ensuring fast and cost-efficient DR. Leveraging NSX ALB Pulse Central licensing service makes this possible and is available today.
