Certification SME Profile: Dale Carter, VCP7-DTM

Developing certification programs involves many different people working countless hours. We want to help you get to know some of the subject matter experts (SMEs) who dedicate their time to making VMware Certifications the best in the industry. This month, we’re speaking with Dale Carter, VCP7-DTM, who has spent 25 years in the IT industry.

What do you think makes for a great testing experience?
Being able to come away from the exam with the knowledge that you at least understood each question, even if you got the answer wrong. The questions need to be clear and concise so each is clearly understood what is being asked of the exam taker.

Why did you get involved in the VMware Certification Contributor program?
First, I wanted to give back to the community and help to improve the exams and the quality of the exam questions. Second, I wanted to help mentor others to get involved and share their knowledge.

What is the most desirable facet of the program?
I love being involved with the community and knowing that something I have help put together will someday help one of my peers improve their career and education goals.

How have you benefitted from the program?
I have met many new people from across the globe when writing the exams and enjoyed learning how the process works. In turn, I have been able to learn from others when we have been writing exam questions together. It’s always great being in a room with some of the smartest people that work with VMware’s products – it’s hard not to learn to information.
