Note: Today we welcome Jon Schulz as a guest blogger. Jon also helped lead the Partners in developing content for this year’s Hands-on Labs.
Today we are releasing the final set of labs from VMworld. These are the Partner labs focused on Networking, Security and Operations. As a reminder, these labs are not just for Partners. These are labs developed by our Partners to showcase their solutions and the seamless integration with VMware technology. These labs are great for experiencing how well our Partner’s products integrate with VMware and enhance the overall solution.
Each year we look forward to working with a team of partners who are selected through a Call For Labs process. Following our annual Partner Exchange event in the Spring, we begin collecting abstracts and evaluating entries for the upcoming catalog cycle. The cycle spans 3 events including VMworld US, Barcelona and Partner Exchange the following year. Each selected partner lab will be available online, along with the VMware content, through the end of following calendar year, i.e. the VMworld 2014 catalog will be available through December 2015. The labs are available online and can be used by anyone for demos, training, Proof of Concepts, etc. Check out the portal at http://labs.hol.vmware.com
If you are interested in submitting a lab during the Call For Labs, the process will open up after Partner Exchange 2015. Check this blog (blogs.vmware.com/hol) for more details as we get closer to Partner Exchange.
Today’s set of labs are focused on integration with NSX, vCenter Operaions Manager and vCloud Automation Center.
HOL-PRT-1462 – VMware and Palo Alto Networks have partnered to deliver a solution that combines fast provisioning of network and security services with next-generation security in the data center. In this lab, learn how to configure the Palo Alto Networks virtualized next-generation firewall VM-1000-HV with VMware NSX to protect VM to VM communications from todays advanced threats.
HOL-PRT-1464 – Symantec Data Center Security: Server leverages NSX Service Composer and Security Groups to automate orchestration and provisioning of security policies for virtual workloads running on vSphere. In this lab you will learn how Data Center Security:Server integrates with VMware NSX to provide agent-less malware protection and guest network threat protection with automated workflow allowing security policies to scale out as new VM’s get deployed on VLAN/VXLAN.
HOL-PRT-1472 – So, you have decided to incorporate a cloud and/or virtualization into your business. This lab will show you how to secure and operate a software defined datacenter with Juniper’s virtual security capabilities for your Enterprise or Service Provider environment.
HOL-PRT-1463 – Learn how to get the most out of your data contained in Oracle Enterprise Manager using vCenter Operations Manager. This lab will guide the end-user through the process of installing and configuring the vCenter Operations Management Pack for Oracle Enterprise Manager, as well as walk them through common use cases on how to utilize the management pack to achieve comprehensive visibility and insights into the performance, capacity, and health of the monitored infrastructure.
HOL-PRT-1466 – This lab walks through the usage of BMC Remedy ITSM and BMC Atrium CMDB plugins for vCenter Orchestrator. You will learn how to create, read and update a BMC Remedy Change ticket, BMC Remedy Help Desk (Incident) ticket and BMC Atrium CMDB Configuration Item (CI) using the vCenter Orchestrator interface. This lab also includes an end to end use case for provisioning a virtual machine using vCloud Automation Center (vCAC) following a process that includes interaction with BMC Remedy Change ticket approval and Atrium CMDB CI creation.
HOL-PRT-1468 – One key challenge facing Cloud Administrators is the amount of time needed to obtain an IP address for a virtual machine. To deploy virtual machines, Cloud Administrators must request IP addresses from the Network Operations team, and then manually type it in which is a tedious, error-prone, and time-consuming process. This Lab shows you how to automate IP Address assignment and DNS registration so that this critical process does not slow the deployment of your Cloud.
HOL-PRT-1469 – Puppet Enterprise enables IT teams to automate VM lifecycle management and scale services quickly, reliably, and efficiently. In these modules, you will receive a hands on overview of Puppet Enterprise and deploy a multi-tier managed application with vCAC 6/Puppet Enterprise.
