5 Questions

1. Why is attending VMware Explore valuable to VMware customers?

There is so much to do at Explore. For me though, I primarily look at the technical content and how that can help VMware customers and partners. Hearing from the technical experts present on relevant topics and then being able to ask them questions is invaluable. The opportunities to learn are huge, from breakout sessions, to labs, or by talking to an expert in a smaller group.

The opportunities to network not only with presenters but with peers, often people in similar jobs and roles, is fantastic. You get to meet new people or with old contacts, exchange ideas, and build relationships that you can call on in the future.

Obviously attending technical breakout sessions on topics that relate to your day-to-day job can provide valuable information and insights. But also try to squeeze in a few sessions on topics that might be outside your direct job, or that you are not overly familiar with. VMware Explore offers a great opportunity to attend sessions to get a quick overview of a topic.

2. What innovations are you most looking forward to learning about this year?

I always try to attend the different solution keynote sessions at VMware Explore. While I am more involved and up to date on the Hybrid Workforce one, it is sometimes hard to keep abreast of the developments and plans that the other business units in VMware have. The solution keynotes are a great opportunity for me to catch up with what they have been working on, their innovations, and also with meet up with some of the technical people from those teams.

3. Can you give us a brief description of what your session/sessions will cover at VMware Explore?

The first session I am presenting at VMware Explore is on Horizon Cloud Service – next-gen deep dive (1373), that includes an overview and detail on the next generation Horizon Cloud platform.

Horizon Cloud Service – next-gen is relevant to all Horizon customers, from those deploying desktops and apps into Azure or other native cloud platforms, through to Horizon 8 customers who might be connecting to enable subscription licensing. We’ll make sure to cover the basics for anyone new to this but also give technical detail and demos on the key points and areas.

I’m also presenting a ‘meet the expert roundtable session’ on Horizon 8, App Volumes, Dynamic Environment Manager (2608). Meet the expert sessions offer a great opportunity for attendees to come and ask technical questions on the given topics. They are small groups in a roundtable format, so no slides or content being presented. While these sessions can be just question and answer they work best when we can get a discussion going with all attendees giving their input, knowledge, and points of view.

4. What is something you think someone new to VMware Explore should know before going to the event?

Check out the catalog and decide which sessions are the ones that you really want to attend and don’t want to miss. Make sure you reserve your seat at those sessions, but don’t worry if you don’t get in as more often than not you can wait in the queue at the session time and get in.

Take advantage of everything Explore has to offer, and don’t be afraid to talk to people. Whether it’s the exhibitors, labs, breakout sessions, meet the experts, or just seeing a presenter walking around, engage with the people you meet. Everyone there will be happy to chat, answer questions and help you. VMware Explore has a lot to offer, but you need to put your energy into making the most of it and engage.

5. What do you gain, as a speaker, from attending VMware Explore?

It is the opportunity to engage with and talk to attendees that I enjoy most about attending and speaking at VMware Explore. As much as I enjoy presenting, I really value the opportunity to engage directly with the attendees. I want to hear and answer your questions. I want to understand what technical challenges you face in your jobs and roles. Ideally, I want to be able to provide you with answers or direct you to the correct technical content. But hearing first-hand what those challenges are helps me understand where the gaps in our content might be. That helps me plan out better technical guides for the future. It also gives me feedback that I can take back to the product teams for them to consider in product development.
