Twenty-six different local authorities, each holding the personal details of local citizens, including health and financial data as well as their employers. Each collecting and distributing tens of thousands of pieces of information and payments each week. And each of the 26 has a different set of data management regulations. In information security terms, the challenge is huge.
The above describes the Swiss disability insurance market. GILAI is the IT service provider to 19 of the 26 Swiss cantons. The company provides everything from private cloud to virtual desktops to eLearning tools. It must also make sure that no data slips between cantons.
GILAI achieves this with VMware NSX Data Center, VMware vRealize Automation and VMware vRealize Network Insight.
With VMware solutions, GILAI is able to segment its different client networks. There is no risk of sensitive data leaking between agencies; GILAI stays ahead of local and national data regulations. It protects GILAI’s corporate reputation today and simplifies the task of integrating possible future clients (GILAI has doubled in size since 2012).
Yet it is much more than this. Rather than tying up GILAI with network security issues, VMware simplifies IT management. The headcount at GILAI has remained static while the number of new services has multiplied. This efficiency frees the organization to focus on its clients. It sets up GILAI to be proactive.
In the words of CIO Sandro Lensi, “Our goal is increased operational efficiency and the rapid provision of highly-available IT services. We can now create desktops in minutes or call up a server in a short timeframe. We continue progressing. Standing still is not acceptable.”
