The municipality of Enschede selected VMware as its technology partner to modernize its workspace environment. Thanks to the deployment of VMware technology, the IT team of the municipality has maximum control over the workspace environment and security has been improved even more. The new environment also has a positive impact on employee flexibility and ease of use. They now have optimal IT support at any location and on various devices. This matches perfectly with the vision for IT services: the municipality’s employees must be able to work securely anytime, anywhere. The implementation of the VMware solutions was carried out by IT specialist Fondo and in close collaboration with the IT team of the municipality.
Work safely anytime, anywhere
To further modernize the workspace environment for the municipality’s employees, a one-stack approach was chosen in which VMware Workspace ONE, VMware Horizon and VMware Carbon Black are the foundation. These solutions can be integrated seamlessly and are easy to manage. In addition to availability of appropriate applications and equipment for employees, good security is essential.
Jerry Otto, IT architect at the municipality of Enschede, explains: “With VMware Workspace ONE as a solid foundation for managing and deploying applications on any device, we ensure that all components are well aligned, and we always have a complete picture of our environment, including endpoints. We now have one platform to centrally manage all tools and software. This saves time and offers greater control over the environment. We are very pleased about the collaboration with VMware and Fondo. They really act as partners who help and advise us and make clear agreements. That way, we don’t get any unpleasant surprises. Thanks to our new workspace environment, not only can our employees work more efficiently, but citizens and companies within our municipality also benefit from better digital services.”
Far-reaching integration for enhanced security
By integrating with VMware Carbon Black and Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense powered by Lookout for endpoint security, the IT team of the municipality of Enschede always has a complete picture of what is happening on a laptop or other device. The far-reaching integration of the data center and EUC environment (End User Computing) enables the team to automatically take action if there is a security risk. This way, employees increase their mobility without compromising on safety.
Petra Cremer, Information security consultant at the municipality of Enschede: “Employees benefit from extra flexibility as they can easily and securely work anywhere with a laptop or other device, whether in the office, at home or in the field. VMware Workspace ONE integrates with Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense powered by Lookout via the Workspace ONE Trust Network and Workspace ONE Intelligence. This enables the IT team to instantly identify and monitor advanced cyberattacks or data breaches on iOS or Android devices. This increases employees’ mobility without compromising on safety. All this happens within the centrally managed VMware Workspace ONE platform.”
Changing role of the IT department
The new workspaces of the municipality of Enschede perfectly match the changing role of the IT department within organizations, says Erik de Geus, Senior Regional Director Benelux van VMware: “Many organizations no longer want to prescribe what technology should be used, they want to operate flexibly. IT will have more of a facilitating role in which the end user is central. This requires a secure and flexible infrastructure within which changes can be made quickly when someone wants a new application or wants to work via a different device, without compromising speed and security. We are pleased that we have been able to help the municipality of Enschede with this in collaboration with our partner Fondo.”
