Barcelona is a city rich in history and culture, highlighted by the 1992 Summer Olympics and Antoni Gaudí’s masterpiece, the Sagrada Família. It’s only fitting that this is the site where a {code} Hackathon team made history this year.
Let’s dive into the recap, and I look forward to meeting you at one of our future events!
Teams and Projects
And the Winner Is…
Congratulations to this year’s Champions…Team No Code! I believe this is the first team in {code} Hackathon history to win without actually writing a single line of code.
This just proves that coding knowledge isn’t a requirement for events like this.
Presentations
All teams had 5 minutes to present their project up on stage. Let me apologize in advance, for the laughter in the videos. I love our community, and I sometimes forget I’m “working” 🙂
Attendees
You know you’re on the right track when both attendees and judges from the Las Vegas Hackathon fly across continents to participate in the same event. Beyond the coding, I had wonderful conversations with people who stopped by amidst the many parties happening around the city. Some new faces, I finally got to meet were Aleksandra Todorovska and Ather Beg. Aleksandra is the only vExpert from Macedonia! She competed on Team Automation with vRA and Terraform.
Ather is a long time VMTN Community Moderator, speaker, and a truly genuine person. I was so excited to meet them that I forgot to take pictures, but never fear, Julia Klaus (our VMTN Community Manager) came to show love and captured some great images for us.
Judges
We owe a huge thank you to our judges, whose expertise and dedication helped make the VMware {code} Hackathon in Barcelona a success. Alan Renouf and Michael Roy, who also joined us at the Las Vegas event, brought invaluable insights and continuity to our community.
A special shout-out to Lino Telera, our {code} coach extraordinaire, and my friend. Lino not only helped the team record the {code} Theater sessions during VMware Explore, but also delivered his own breakout and theater presentations. Check out the Recap post of the {code} Theater.
Our judges walked around and met with every team to understand their projects and provide assistance. Their combined efforts ensured that all contenders were all included, and their ideas heard.
Siempre un placer trabajar con ustedes. Always a pleasure. Grazie!
Building Connections
This is my favorite part. The {code} Hackathon is more than just a coding competition; it’s a chance to forge new relationships and strengthen existing ones. Participants engaged in meaningful conversations, exchanged ideas, and collaborated on solutions that extended beyond the scope of the event. The sense of community and mutual support was evident throughout, making the Hackathon a truly inspiring experience.
We, as individuals, are awesome, but when our mentality shifts from “I” to “we”, that’s when the magic truly happens.
