Join Us for Our Annual Event in Barcelona
We’re thrilled to announce that the {code} Hackathon is returning to Barcelona! This is your chance to dive into a world of innovation, collaboration, and fun. Whether you’re passionate about PowerCLI, Terraform, app development, or just want to connect with fellow tech enthusiasts, this event is for you.
We are excited to share that our event has been a beloved tradition for almost a decade now! 🎉 Over the years, it has grown into a vibrant gathering that brings together our community for a night of fun, learning, and connection.
What is a Hackathon?
The {code} Hackathon is a vibrant event where our community comes together to create unique project applications around automation technology. Typically, projects center around new or creative applications using PowerCLI, scripting, and automating. There are really no limits to your creativity: write a PowerCLI script, create a new game, create an ESXi hacking environment for penetration testing – generating ideas is the fun part.
Participants are encouraged to sign up as part of a team, typically 4-5 members, and begin work on a project now. You may sign up as part of an existing team or bring your own team and idea. Or, participants may drop in the evening of the event to work solo or join up with other walk-ins. Walk-ins are common and encouraged.
During the Hackathon, 6-10pm Tuesday, November 5, all participants will meet to work on their projects and ultimately submit them for judging. Before the event ends, top projects will be recognized with prizes! After the Hackathon, projects will be shared in a GitHub repo so others can keep learning from our cool projects.

Project Ideas
Need some inspiration? Here are a few project ideas to get your creative juices flowing. Use this event to branch out and learn something new!
- Customization/Scripting: Leverage automation (PowerCLI, APIs, Sysprep (Windows)) to deploy a VM and automatically run post-build tasks (install antivirus, monitoring alerts).
- vSphere Plug-In for PowerCLI Scripts: Develop a vSphere plug-in that allows admins to save and run PowerCLI scripts from a single interface, calling the vSphere API.
- Create a Learning Platform: Leverage Educates.dev to create a learning platform while learning Kubernetes, Docker, and an API or two. Session reference.
- Mobile App Game: Create a spin on Space Invaders where the VI Admin shoots down invading Snapshots (monsters).
