VMware {code} Connect: Recap

VMware {code} Connect Recap

It’s been two weeks since VMware {code}’s first ever conference, #CodeConnect, and the recorded sessions have just began to be released on our YouTube channel. You can check them out here. From October 1st to October 2nd, the conference saw 45+ traditional “Power Sessions” (30 minute technical talks from SME’s), Code on the Fly sessions (1.5 hour long sessions deep diving into a topic with live input and direction from the audience, 2 keynotes, a script based competition and a hackathon!

It was a jam packed two days and you can see all the session on our conference website and link straight to the videos there! In the course of two days, we had 2,500+ participants, with active engagement throughout each session and lots of positive feedback.

Day 1 Recap:

Day 1 was structured to show attendees a little bit of what all three tracks in Day 2 were set to offer so participants could decide what they were most interested in learning and tailor their #CodeConnect experience to their interests.

The day kicked off strong with VMware CTO Kit Colbert addressing attendees in the keynote:

Following Kit’s keynote were a few Tanzu sessions and an automation session follow by 2, 1.5 hour long Code on the Fly sessions by SME’s William Lam and Michael Gasch & Rafael Brito. The day ended with a script based competition run by partnet company ControlUp. The winner, announced on Day 2, was Oscar Madrigal, who’s winning script will be features on Control Up’s website as “Script of the Month”. Oscar will also be interviewed for the website and receive a prize.

Day 2 Recap:

Day two featured 3 tracks, IT Automation, Kubernetes, & Partner/Community sessions! Just like Day 1, day 2 kicked off with a bang, featuring VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger as the keynote speaker.

Afterward the keynote, the streams broke off into their three separate tracks. Just like the previous day, we saw wonderful turnout and participant engagement remained high during the day.

The conference ended with the highly anticipated VMware Hackathon, which you can read more about here

The Hackathon theme, “Code Wars: PowerShell v. Ansible” was received well and we say 5 competitive teams from all around the world trying to prove which was better.

In the end, Team Ansible just narrowly edged out PowerShell!
