VMware {code} VMworld

VMware{code} Experiences at VMworld US 2019

The VMware{code} booth will feature three {code} experiences involving Raspberry Pi’s, sensors, Kubernetes, and more at VMworld US 2019. Sign up for the experiences here!

1. Introduction to Raspberry Pi and Sensor Programming

This VMware{code} Experience is a combination of a 45 minute lecture session and 1 hour coding lesson. Participants will learn the basics of ARM and linux on Raspberry Pi, as well as how to wire and write code for various Pi sensors. Each participant will receive a free sensor which they can connect to the lab Pi’s with the help of instructor Eric Nielsen. Fifteen different sensors are available, including movement, CO2, Temp, moisture and more.

2. Kubernetes on Raspberry Pi

This VMware{code} Experience is a combination of a 45 minute lecture session and 1 hour coding lesson on how to install and run Kubernetes on Raspberry Pi’s. The session covers installing Docker and Kubernetes on ARM, packaging a simple Python sensor app into a Docker image, and initializing a Kubernetes cluster of Pi’s. Participants who stay for the 1 hour coding lesson will get hands on instruction on joining worker nodes to a Kubernetes cluster as well as creating YAML pod definitions to deploy a workload to Kubernetes.

3. PKS on AWS

This VMware{code} Experience shows participants Cloud PKS being used to deploy a Raspberry Pi sensor app. The app uses VMware Pulse IoT to proxy sensor data from the Pi’s on the lab bench to a web server that graphs the information. Participants will learn about PKS, Pulse IoT, and Pi sensors.
