There’s a moment when the question stops being “what’s new?” and becomes “what does this version let me do next?” VMware Cloud Director 10.6.2 is that moment.
We’re excited to announce that VMware Cloud Director 10.6.2 is now generally available. If we had to sum up this release in one sentence, it’s all about getting your underlying infrastructure ready for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1 and setting up a smooth path toward VCF Automation down the road. We’ve also packed in crucial security patches, fixes to customer-reported issues, and solid interoperability validation so that you’re operating on a stable and hardened platform when you are ready to move your workloads.
Migration to VCF Automation 9.1
With VMware Cloud Director 10.6.2, migrating to VCF Automation 9.1 is now a fully supported, documented, and UI-based tool-assisted path.
The path includes three steps:
1. Run the Environment Assessment Tool (EAT) to collect environment-specific metadata from your VMware Cloud Director deployment by following the instructions in this blog.
Why is sharing environment-specific information important?
Sharing this output allows Broadcom to better understand your current environment and provide better guidance should issues arise prior, during or after your migration. Because system configurations and data evolve over time, if you have previously submitted the data, we encourage you to resubmit this output if your last submission was more than six months ago. Up-to-date information enables us to assist you in order to ensure a smoother transition.
2. Request the 10.6.2 migration documentation by emailing vcdeat.pdl@broadcom.com, the same address you use to submit the EAT report mentioned above. The email title must be “Requesting VCD to VCF A Migration Documentation”
3. Connect VCF Automation Migration Service to VMware Cloud Director and begin your migration step by step.
Security and Fixes
VMware Cloud Director 10.6.2 closes security vulnerabilities identified since the previous release and resolves defects reported by providers running VMware Cloud Director in production. From this hardened baseline, you can confidently step onto the path toward VCF Automation 9.1.
