VMware Cloud Provider Object Storage Extension VMware Cloud Director

VMware Cloud Director Object Storage Extension 2.2.3

VMware Cloud Director Object Storage Extension 2.2.3 is generally available to the market as of 27th November 2023. In June, version 2.2.2 was released with improvements to tenant onboarding, bucket support and backup restore capabilities. Version 2.2.3 introduces features that accelerate customer onboarding time with enhancements to the deployment, and user mapping processes and has expanded the interoperability matrix.

New Features

Deployment Process Optimization

The OSE server deployment functionality has been optimized to improve the RPM/DEB install process. VIP server and Kubernetes Backup and Restore deployer are no longer a part of the Object Storage Extension installation.  Please note, there is no impact to localization and Kubernetes backup and restore functionality.

API Token to integrate with VMware Cloud Director

During the Object Storage Extension installation, Cloud Providers and tenants can use an API token to authenticate with VMware Cloud Director instance where the plug-in will be installed.

Custom Storage User Mapping

Starting with version 2.2.3 Cloud Providers have visibility over use mapping and the users can now be associated or de-associated with VCD storage users from any supported S3 platform. For example: One tenant user can be mapped to multiple storage users. This feature was designed to accelerate the onboarding of legacy buckets and objects into Cloud Director tenants.

OSIS Adapter Name

OSIS adapter name is no longer used in Object Storage Extension as it caused configuration issues in the past due to incorrect mapping.

Enhancements

  • Object Storage Extension 2.2.3 now supports OpenSSL3 for importing or generating certificates with the command-line script ‘ose cert’.
  • Object Storage Extension 2.2.3 expands the operating system versions it supports and integrates with DELL ECS 3.8.
