What’s New
VMware Aria Operations Management Pack for Cloud Director Availability 1.4 introduces several significant enhancements compared to what was available in the previous version of the Management Pack.
vCenter Sites Collections
Similarly to the Cloud Director sites, vCenter clouds running VMware Cloud Director Availability can now be registered and have their site and replication metrics collected. Then, they can be visualized on the pre-configured VCDA Sites Health dashboard, VCDA Incoming VM Replications View, VCDA Incoming VM Replications Report shipped with the Management Pack, or any custom dashboard, view, or report. The metrics can also become the cause for alerts to be generated when they are added to the default policy and activated. All alerts added by this Management Pack are disabled by default.
If multiple sites of both types are registered with the same VMware Aria Operations instance, they will all appear on the VCDA Sites Health dashboard.
Cloud Director Cloud to On-Premises Replication Tracking
The new Status > Direction property allows the easy identification of the destination of each replication. It also enables gathering information about the Cloud to On-Premises replications.
Now, these are also part of the VMware Aria Operations Management Pack for Cloud Director Availability 1.4 collection process, and the relevant metrics for them are available in VMware Aria Operations for monitoring as well as in VMware Chargeback for billing purposes.
They are available in the views and reports but not in the VCDA Sites Health dashboard.
Note: All Cloud to On-Premises replications are reported to use the * (Any) Storage Policy as the On-Premises site is not registered, and their actual one cannot be obtained.
Recommendations
As an improvement to the troubleshooting process, this new version of the Management Pack includes alert recommendations. Now, each generated alert related to the VMware Cloud Director Availability objects has one or multiple suggestions on how to resolve the issue.
This is supposed to provide proper guidance and shorten the resolution time.
New Metrics
Along with all the metrics related to vCenter sites and the replications owned by them, there are a few more newly added site metrics.
For example, Certificate Expiration Remaining Days and CEIP Enabled required for VMware Sovereign Cloud are collected for each site, while RPO Violation (Minute(s)) is gathered per replication and indicates its RPO violation amount of time in minutes.
Summary
The new version of the VMware Aria Operations Management Pack for Cloud Director Availability covers more use cases, enriches the metric collection, and simplifies the troubleshooting process.
