Interoperability
VMware vRealize Operations Management Pack for Cloud Director Availability 1.2 supports these product versions:
- VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.4.x or later
- VMware Cloud Director 10.1.4 – 10.4.x
- VMware vRealize Operations TenantApp – 8.6.x or later
- VMware vRealize Operations Management Pack for VMware Cloud Director 8.6.x or later
- VMware vRealize Operations 8.6.x, 8.10
Note: VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.2.x and 4.3.x are not supported. In case you are running these, please make sure you upgrade to 4.4.1 before installing or upgrading your Management Pack.
Upgrade
The upgrade procedure is easy and straightforward. It doesn’t require stopping the active collections or removing the old version of the Management Pack.
You only need to select the upgrade option and follow the steps documented in the VMware vRealize Operations Management Pack for Cloud Director Availability Install, Upgrade, and Use Guide.
Note: During the process, it is important to check the Reset Default Content checkbox before uploading the PAK file so only the relevant content will be in place after the upgrade is finished.
New Metrics
The replication data collection of VMware vRealize Operations Management Pack for Cloud Director Availability 1.2 is extended by metrics related to RPO violations and even vApp template migrations.
And based on a significant Cloud Provider demand, this new version of the Management Pack also introduces the Site resource and collects system health metrics for the VMware Cloud Director Availability Cloud service – Free disk space, service availability, status of the connectivity between the different components, license or certificate issues, and more.
These new metrics are available per VMware Cloud Director Availability instance under Provider Incoming Replications.
This is how the new metrics are visualized.
For the full list of metrics, please refer to the VMware vRealize Operations Management Pack for Cloud Director Availability Install, Upgrade, and Use Guide on page 10.
Alerts and Dashboards
Based on the replication and system health metrics, VMware vRealize Operations Management Pack for Cloud Director Availability 1.2 offers a set of 13 pre-built alerts with their symptom definitions and a system health dashboard.
The alerts cover the majority of possible issues that might occur with the VMware Cloud Director Availability Cloud service, as well as RPO violations or other replication problems.
Note: Due to the different Cloud Provider preferences and configurations, the alerts are not automatically included in a policy and are in a deactivated state. You will need to manually add the relevant ones to a policy and activate them after Management Pack installation.
The VCDA Sites Health dashboard can be found in Dashboards under All > Cloud Director Availability and shows information based on the system health metrics per VMware Cloud Director Availability instance.
It visualizes the relationship information that includes the VMware Cloud Director Availability instance and its replications and indicates all the alerts per object, making it possible to view them directly.
Not all the metrics are included by default, but you can modify the dashboard, including or excluding some metrics based on what data you want to see.
Summary
VMware vRealize Operations Management Pack for Cloud Director Availability 1.2 expands the metric collection scope enabling the Cloud Providers to actively monitor the health of their VMware Cloud Director Availability instances and their tenants’ replications state.
The pre-built resources such as alerts, views, reports, and dashboards can be easily customized to deliver the most valuable information needed.
