With many enterprises currently adopting multiple clouds, it’s clear that there is no one-size-fits-all cloud strategy. Enterprises want, and are investing in, the ability to have a seamless and consistent experience across their public, private and hybrid cloud services.
That’s why in 2016, IBM and VMware set out to tackle a pressing industry challenge: extending existing VMware workloads across the hybrid cloud without having to retool operations, rearchitect applications and redesign security policies.
Today, enterprises across different industries are turning to the IBM Cloud to migrate their VMware workloads and modernize their applications. IBM is one of VMware’s largest global cloud provider partners with more than 1,700 clients such as American Airlines, Honeywell International, Syniverse and more running VMware workloads on the IBM Cloud.
For example, Deloitte is using IBM Cloud for its Medicaid Enterprise Solution (MES) HealthInteractive Platform, which will be implemented by the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Medical Assistance Services to help modernize state Medicaid information systems. State health agencies are facing increased pressure to modernize their existing health care delivery systems while balancing new regulations, federal guidelines and budget restraints.
These agencies must transform Medicaid management information systems from large and monolithic systems into modular, interoperable solutions that meet the guidelines set out by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Deloitte can migrate critical workloads and data between on-premises environments and VMware Cloud Foundation on IBM Cloud, a VMware Cloud Verified solution, while helping to meet federal Medicaid mandates.
In addition to growing adoption, IBM and VMware continue to innovate and deliver new solutions and services to help businesses run their VMware workloads easily on the cloud.
We are launching the limited availability of VMware vCloud Availability for vCloud Director on IBM Cloud, which is designed to enable a multi-tenant VMware environment for disaster recovery. The vCloud Availability uses existing VMware infrastructure and tooling on-premises and enables customers to failover workloads to the IBM Cloud. Using their existing VMware environment, this solution provides customers the benefits of the public cloud — scalability, speed and cost-effectiveness — without the need to refactor applications and workloads.
In January, IBM announced the IBM Cloud Migration Factory, tapping into IBM trained migration services professionals to help clients move their infrastructures and applications to the cloud. The Cloud Migration Factory is designed to help clients stay agile and flexible, without risking business disruption, security or performance.
Decades of IBM migration experience from its project manager and tools are helping ease the migration process and lightening the burden so clients can concentrate on growing their business. Tight linkages and coordination with hybrid cloud infrastructure help speed execution, including backup and disaster recovery workloads. IBM Services has completed more than 100,000 migrations and helped clients choose the right cloud adoption strategy for them while providing multicloud platform support.
As part of IBM Cloud Migration Services, IBM Services recently launched JumpStart, a simple solution to enable clients to efficiently migrate their initial workloads on VMware on IBM Cloud. JumpStart includes platform design and deployment of the VMware vCenter Server on the IBM Cloud and the initial migration of client workloads. It also enables existing and future applications and workloads to run in the IBM Cloud without any changes, using clients’ same tooling, skill and processes.
