The solution architectures are designed to provide ideas and recommended topologies based on real-world examples for deploying, configuring and managing each of the proposed solutions. We are very excited to introduce the first set of VMware Cloud on AWS reference architectures! They can be downloaded on our new Reference Architecture page.
These reference architectures have been developed by the VMware Cloud Solution Architecture team – a team of senior cloud-focused architects who help our strategic partners and customers understand how they can get the most out of their VMware Cloud on AWS investments. We do this by offering deep-dive technical architecture workshops, hands-on enablement, technical validation and solution design support activities. Through the execution of these activities across a broad spectrum of partners, customers and industries, we have supported the development of many advanced, customer-centric deployments that leverage the best of VMware and the best of Amazon Web Services.
The reference architectures are designed to provide solution ideas and recommended topologies based on real-world examples, for deploying, configuring and managing each of the proposed solutions. In these architectures, we have also provided some high-level guidance on how to perform some of the configuration steps. These should be used in conjunction with the service documentation from both VMware and Amazon Web Services to ensure your deployments are tailored to meet your individual circumstances, and are as successful as possible.

1. Getting Started with VMware Cloud on AWS
This reference architecture provides generic guidance to start deploying standard hybrid applications on VMware Cloud on AWS that can be accessed by on-premises end-users.
2. Connecting to VMware Cloud on AWS with SSL Client VPN Software
This reference architecture provides guidance to configure standard SSL VPN software on VMware Cloud on AWS that can be used by end-users to access management services and applications running in both VMware Cloud on AWS and connected AWS VPCs from anywhere.
3. VMware Cloud on AWS Hybrid Cloud Services for Operational Consistency
This reference architecture highlights the value of extending an on-premises architecture and procedures to VMware Cloud on AWS for operational consistency of end-to-end services, while also leveraging native AWS innovation.
4. VMware Horizon 7 on VMware Cloud on AWS
This reference architecture illustrates a minimal viable product to start VMware Horizon 7 on VMware Cloud on AWS.
5. HCX Multi-Site Connectivity and Workload Mobility (Over the Internet)
This reference architecture details how a customer can extend multiple on-premises data centers to VMware Cloud on AWS SDDC using VMware HCX.
6. High Availability Leveraging AWS Multi-Availability Zones for VMware Cloud SDDCs
This reference architecture illustrates a high-availability option for a single VMware Cloud on AWS SDDC by leveraging multiple Availability Zones (AZ) from native AWS while maintaining a “3-Tier App” environment on-premises.
7. Hybrid Cloud Identity and Access Management with Microsoft Active Directory and AWS IAM
This reference architecture details how on-premises Active Directory infrastructure can be extended to VMware Cloud on AWS infrastructure.
8. Integrating Amazon FSx for Windows Servers with VMware Cloud on AWS
This reference architecture highlights the recommended production topology for deploying managed fileservers leveraging Amazon FSx for Windows Server with VMware Cloud on AWS.
9. Leveraging Amazon Application Load Balancer (ALB) with VMware Cloud on AWS
This reference architecture details how Amazon Application Load Balancers can be used to load balance secured web traffic destined for web servers hosted on VMware Cloud on AWS infrastructure.
