A robust end-to-end cyber resilience posture must include hardened infrastructure, zero-trust lateral security and secure cyber recovery. The misconception that cyber resilience is the same as cybersecurity leaves victims hanging when they come to realize that even state-of-the-art security solutions are not effective 100% of the time, given the ever-evolving nature of cyberthreats today. In addition, bad actors also leverage other breach mechanisms such as stolen credentials, which allow them to access systems legitimately and remain undetected until damage has been done. The only way to enforce true cyber resilience is by pairing prevention with response and recovery.
VMware Live Recovery allows customers to run all their cyber and disaster recovery operations across their VCF sites using a single solution, something that sets it apart from other vendors which require them to manually stitch together replication, orchestration, validation, networking and recovery infrastructure components.
Today, VLR delivers DR and cyber recovery to a cloud-based VCF site. For cyber recovery, it integrates full functionality across networking, EDR and isolated clean room provisioning into a guided workflow that’s completely automated and enables organizations to safely and quickly bounce back from cyberattacks that may threaten their ability to operate.
On the other hand, VLR delivers enterprise-grade DR orchestration across a wide range of VCF-based topologies and includes enhanced vSphere replication with RPOs as low as 1-minute to support mission-critical applications.
Unfortunately, cyber protection and recovery has been used as a marketing strategy by many products which just don’t have what it takes to enable successful outcomes, as they either leave customers hanging when they need an isolated clean room, or claim to have advanced validation of restore points when all they deliver is a basic signature scan, which is ineffective at identifying and containing sophisticated strains of malware that are primarily fileless and represent the majority of threats today. These gaps that are often underestimated or simply unidentified are what puts organizations in danger of facing severe consequences. No one protects VMware infrastructure better than VMware, and we are continuing to stay ahead of the market with innovations that not only set VMware Live Recovery apart, but also boost the overall platform-level value of our offering.
With this in mind, these are the new innovations now available to VMware Live Recovery customers:
Cyber recovery to an on-premises VCF isolated clean room
VMware Live Recovery already supports cyber recovery to a cloud-based isolated clean room, but certain organizations have to abide by strict data compliance and privacy regulations which prevent them from storing data in the public cloud.
Those organizations who need to preserve data sovereignty while enforcing end-to-end protection across their entire VCF infrastructure will now be able to run cyber recovery operations using an on-premises VCF target site. This is enabled as a VMware Validated Solution in 9.0, and we will continue to develop on-premises cyber recovery to bring a fully integrated solution like what we offer for cloud-based isolated clean room targets today.

vSAN data protection powered by VMware Live Recovery
VMware Live Recovery tightly integrates with vSAN to deliver differentiated benefits that customers can’t access if they leverage non-VMware solutions. An example of this is the newly-announced capability to invoke cyber recovery from local vSAN snapshots which accelerates restore by up to 24x compared to a standard delta-based failback.
We are now taking it one step further with vSAN data protection, where customers can leverage vSAN to vSAN replication. This enhancement unlocks unique value which includes:
- RPOs as low as 1-minute with full DR orchestration to facilitate automated, confident recovery
- Simplified lifecycle management with a single VMware Live Recovery appliance
- Efficient scaling of recovery infrastructure with vSAN storage clusters
- A deeper history of snapshot copies which allows customers to store up to 200 snapshots per VM
We continue to push our own boundaries to innovate further and deliver end-to-end cyber protection and recovery for all our VCF customers.
