How One Energy Company Scaled Its Private Cloud with a VMware Cloud Foundation TAM

A division of an energy company set a clear course for its private cloud: standardize on VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and build an environment that could manage itself, automate what once was manual, and identify issues before they caused disruption.

That decision marked the start of a broader transformation shaped by an ongoing partnership and deep technical guidance from a VCF Technical Adoption Manager (TAM). Watch this video as Shiv Diddee, Senior TAM Manager, shares this story about how a VCF TAM made a big difference for their customer.

From implementation to transformation: how a TAM helped advance the customer’s strategy

To build on the foundation laid by VCF Professional Services and advance from deployment to scalable operations, the division’s IT leaders sought the guidance of their VCF TAM.

VCF TAMs provide subject matter expertise to help organizations maximize the value of their private cloud environments. TAMs work closely with internal customer teams to align technical capabilities with operational goals, offering guidance, planning support, and tailored enablement along the way to help meet their goals faster.

In this case, the energy company and their TAM started by working together to improve monitoring and management, streamline operations, and reduce manual effort in application deployment.

To support these goals, the TAM introduced the customer to VCF Operations for logs and VCF Operations for networks. They provided guidance to help  the customer to create custom dashboards and metrics, enable alert notifications, schedule reports, and more, all tailored to the customer’s needs.

Scaling for success

As the environment matured, the TAM provided deeper enablement: configuration for infrastructure and networking management, technical workshops on private cloud governance and security, and planning guidance for upgrades and health checks. The IT team gained the confidence to resolve issues proactively and shift from reactive support to preventive operations.

Initial progress fueled real momentum. The first division’s success spread across the business, leading to a corporate initiative to standardize on VCF and bring TAM support to four more divisions. What began as one day of TAM engagement grew to five—ensuring the company could continue building on its progress.
