Announcing Dual DPU Support in VMware Cloud Foundation 5.2

We are thrilled to introduce the latest enhancement in VMware Cloud Foundation 5.2 with the launch of Dual DPU Support. This feature is designed to significantly boost performance and deliver high availability for your network infrastructure.

Why Dual DPU Support Matters

As organizations continue to demand higher performance and greater reliability from their network infrastructure, Dual DPU Support in VMware Cloud Foundation 5.2 offers a robust solution. By doubling the throughput capacity and providing flexible configurations for performance or high availability, this feature addresses the needs of modern data centers and private cloud environments.

Whether you are looking to enhance network performance or ensure high availability for mission-critical workloads, Dual DPU Support provides the versatility and reliability you need.

Key Highlights of Dual DPU Support

Manage Multiple DPUs with a Host

With Dual DPU Support, you can now manage up to two DPU instances seamlessly within a single host. This enhancement simplifies the management process, ensuring that both DPU are efficiently handled without added complexity.

Enhanced Performance and Throughput

One of the most significant benefits of Dual DPU Support is the increase in performance. By supporting two DPUs on a host, we have doubled the throughput capacity. Each DPU operates independently, but together providing 2X the throughput increasing the capacity.

Flexibility in DPU Utilization

The new Dual DPU configuration offers customers flexibility in how they utilize their DPUs:

  1. Performance: Both DPUs operate independently, providing maximum throughput. This configuration is ideal for environments where performance is critical, as it takes full advantage of the increased bandwidth.
  2. High Availability: Customers can configure the DPUs in an Active-Standby state to enhance redundancy. In this mode, if the active DPU fails, all traffic seamlessly fails over to the standby DPU, ensuring that there is no disruption in service. This configuration is perfect for mission-critical applications where uptime is paramount.

VMware vSphere Lifecycle Manager Support

In VMware vSphere 8 Update 3, the vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) includes support for dual DPU configurations. Like single DPU setups, vLCM will ensure that both DPU ESXi versions are remediated and kept up to date with the same version. This integrated support simplifies lifecycle management and ensures consistency across your infrastructure.
