What makes VMware different from any other company Nikolay has worked for is the culture – the willingness of people to help each other and move forward constructively with passion and integrity.
Tell us about your career journey to date?
My journey in IT started early when I was at school in times when “computer science” wasn’t fancy and nobody believed it had future. Years to come proved the opposite and now it’s hard to imagine that was something unpopular.
For me, it all started with hours and hours of coding in front of a green monitor with 4 (green) colors. Back then I was using Pascal and assembly language. The journey continued for the years to come and I continued coding during my education in Sofia High School of Mathematics, Sofia University, and many years after that as a developer.
Around 2006 I started my journey as a manager and since 2019 I am part of the VMware Secure State team as a Senior R&D Manager.
How is VMware different from any other tech company you have worked for?
One word: Culture. It has to do with how we work together, how we have fun together, how we collaborate and look for innovations, how we push together towards success. The willingness of people to help each other and move forward constructively with passion and integrity has never stopped to amaze me. I can definitely say that’s the best environment I’ve been a part of during my career and I can’t express how much the company takes care of the employees.
What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you moved upwards in your career?
If you want to have happy customers, you got to have a happy team. If you want to have a happy team, then respect everybody and work with people to find what they are passionate about and help them achieve their goals.
Nikolay has been featured in a popular Bulgarian podcast called „Свръхчовекът с Георги Нинов“. In the interview Nikolay talks about his 4 keys to achieving his goals. Listen the podcast episode here.
