Meet the Hiring Manager

VMware Hiring Manager: Ivaylo Ivanov

Ivaylo Ivanov’s team in Sofia is working on VMware Cloud on AWS – an integrated cloud offering jointly developed by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and VMware.

Tell us about your career journey to date?

I find my job at VMware very interesting and challenging. My experience up to now includes managing development teams at Fourth and SafeCharge (now Nuvei) – a global fintech company.

How is VMware different to any other tech company you have worked for?

VMware is the largest company I have worked for. Nevertheless, I feel an atmosphere of a small company, where everyone is always ready to help you solve a problem you are stuck on. I also love the type of projects I work on.  They are challenging and new to me – something I have not done in so far, which is pretty much the reason I joined VMWare. Here I’ve got the right balance between the challenges I am facing and the experience I can bring to the table.

What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you moved upwards in your career?

To trust and respect the people I work with. Building relationships based on mutual trust, respect and readiness to help is a continuous process. I learned this at my first job in a then small start-up and it turned into a core principle I adhere to in my career to date.

Your team is hiring. Can you tell us more about your organization’s charter?

VMware Cloud on AWS is an integrated cloud offering jointly developed by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and VMware. It allows users to run a highly scalable and secure service by migrating and extending their on-premises VMware vSphere-based environments to the AWS Cloud running on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2).
My team’s charter includes building and delivering Infrastructures such as Kubernetes (K8s), customer onboarding, and Day 0 operations, some of the Day 2 operations like Customer Notifications and Cloud Capacity Platform (forecasting, purchasing, hosts inventory management). With respect to the technology enablers, we mostly work on Java-based services that are run as containers on K8s.

If someone reading this was coming to interview with you tomorrow for a role in your org, what interview tips would you give them?

Be honest – show us your best side, but do not hold back on anything you believe you still need to work on. Let us know of your interests, your dreams what you have done so far to achieve them. We would like to get to know you better and we are sure you do too. Ask us about everything that is important to you. We’re looking forward to meeting you.
