Boris Savov has been working as a senior dev at SAP and decided to relocate together with his family to France. Things were working out pretty good for him, but not so much for his family. Not speaking the language fluently was an obstacle for his wife’s dentist practice. Their daughter, at high school then, wasn’t satisfied with what she found in her French school. They stayed in France for 2 years and then decided to come back. Living here has its own downsides, says Boris, but ultimately my standard of living here is higher – you can go out more frequently and even the taxes are lower.

Yordan Karadzhov has dedicated 12+ years to experimental physics, completing a Ph.D. in particle physics and working at Geneva University for 6 years. In 2017 he came back to Bulgaria with his family and an intention to explore a new professional field – machine learning. He chose VMware as the next step in his journey and became an open-source engineer instead. Yordan says that the VMware Open Source team won him over with the complexity of problems they solve.

Yordan has been living in Bulgaria and working at VMware for 3 years. He likes the fact that in Bulgaria he can enjoy a rich social life, go out frequently and overall have a high standard of living. Being at home, surrounded by people sharing the same history and mentality matters, it’s never the same abroad, you feel a foreigner, says Yordan.
