This week meet Vasil, R&D Manager at VMware Cloud on AWS. He’s been with the company for 7 years and what keeps him at VMware is the fact that the company stands truly for its values that resonate with his and his team’s passion for delivery and quality.
“The way the company treats its employees, the way it enables employees to support the community through programs backed by the VMware Foundation – this builds a sense of belonging in me, and I am definitely seeing myself at VMware for the foreseeable future.”
Tell us about your career journey to date?
Before VMware, I worked for 5 years as software developer in Sirma Solutions, where I took part in variety of projects – company internal, government contracts and outsourcing.
I joined VMware 7 year ago, as a software developer in the former Support Assistant team, which later evolved into VMware Analytics Platform (VAC). I worked on building the foundations, feature set and stability of what is now the Company Standard Platform for Telemetry and Data Analytics.
Two and a half years ago I joined my current team, Capacity Platform for VMware Cloud on AWS, taking the Architect role. The project involves Forecasting, Cost Optimization and Management of AWS Capacity – a complex and evolving domain area with direct revenue impact.
I am in the R&D Manager role for almost an year now, making sure the team meets business requirements with high quality solutions.
How is VMware different to any other tech company you have worked for?
Looking for a better career opportunity back in time, I wanted to work in VMware as one of the best IT employers in Bulgaria. Being in the company for 7 years, I can say that the company stands out for its EPIC2 values that resonate with my passion for delivery and quality as well as with my team beliefs and nature.
The way the company treats its employees, the way it enables employees to support Community through programs backed by the VMware Foundation – this builds a sense of belonging in me, and I am definitely seeing myself at VMware for the foreseeable future.
What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you moved upwards in your career?
I am passionate about building productive teams, with high morale and strong delivery model.
To achieve this, I believe that collaboration is a very important attribute.
And while internal team collaboration is within our control, achieving it at higher scale – different teams, organizations, and business units – is challenging yet necessary for productivity and success.
Understanding everyone’s perspective, needs and expectations is essential for facilitating and executing a joined effort, which brings additional value and makes possible for 1 + 1 = 3.
Your team is hiring. Can you tell us more about your organization’s charter?
Our team builds a Capacity Platform for VMware Cloud on AWS.We provide foundations for the “Cloud” aspect of our partnership with AWS by managing our Customers’ capacity demands through automation.
It is a dynamic area, in which our team has direct VMware revenue impact, works on variety of AWS integrations, develops solutions on top of a state-of-the-art SaaS Platform and has E2E ownership of our service lifecycle.
And as VMware is uniquely positioned to provide hybrid cloud solutions on top of not only AWS but any other infrastructure cloud providers, our team has a long term vision and roadmap to support the evolution of VMware Cloud products with regards to Capacity Management.
