This November, the VMware flagship conference VMworld Europe 2019 will again take place in Barcelona at the Fira Gran Via. The Virtualizing Business Critical Applications track this year is packed with a lot of sessions with a highlight being the Virtualizing Business Critical Applications customer tutorials (bootcamps) – four hours deep dive sessions (Level 400) with a lot of insides from SMEs from both inside and outside VMware.
This year rather than workshops that require the VMworld attendee to pay an extra $800USD for an 8-hour workshop, these 4-hour tutorials are innate sessions of the rich VMworld curriculum. In other words, they are free to VMworld attendees and they are also conveniently scheduled to avoid overlap with the other BCA sessions that the attendee is likely to find appealing and useful.
There will be five separate tutorials, each of which is focused on a specific technology or application, running on VMware Technologies. Subjects are as diverse as Oracle, SAP, Microsoft SQL Server, Active Directory, and Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Starting 2019 , these sessions are made available as part of the session catalog , so be sure to add the tutorial to your list of session selected.
To help you with this task we included the short outline of tutorials along with mentioning other relevant for each of the application domains VMworld Europe events.
Machine learning
Supporting Machine Learning Workloads and GPUs on vSphere [MLA3014TE].
Monday, November 4th.
Justin Murray, Senior Technical Marketing Architect, VMware.
Josh Simons, Sr Dir & Chief Technologist, High Performance Computing, VMware.
In the first part of this tutorial, you will learn about the concepts of machine learning (ML), including inference and training, supervised and unsupervised learning, and deep learning. Bring your laptop to build a neural network model yourself. Gain an understanding of how ML works and what types of problems can be solved with these techniques. You will also see a demo of a data science automation tool to illustrate how ML is used by data scientists. The second part of the workshop will focus on the IT infrastructure needed to support ML, including a detailed discussion of the ways specialized hardware accelerators such as GPUs are enabled on VMware vSphere, along with a discussion of ML performance. Learn about the role of Apache Spark and Hadoop in supporting machine learning.
But it’s not only tutorial, but much more ML-related events at VMworld Europe this year – check out the VMworld Europe Content Catalogue and add to your schedule! To recommend is the breakout MLA2036BE: Supporting Container Based Machine Learning with PKS host by Tom Hite (Sr. Director, PS Emerging Technology, VMware) and Mohan Potheri (HPC Solutions Architect, VMware).
Microsoft Active Directory
Architecting and Implementing Microsoft Active Directory on VMware Technologies [BCA2162TE].
Thursday November 7th
Deji Akomolafe – Staff Solution Architect, CPBU, VMware.
Sander Berkouwer – External Expert –, CTO, SCCT.
Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) is one of the most critical components of a Windows IT infrastructure. Most operations and functionalities in an Enterprise Microsoft Windows infrastructure depend on a robust, scalable, redundant and reliable Active Directory infrastructure. While most enterprises have adopted virtualization as the standard platform for their mission critical applications in production, many enterprise administrators and operators are still reluctant to virtualize Domain Controllers in their environments.
VMware’s Microsoft Applications Virtualization Lead (Deji Akomolafe) will deliver the workshop. He will take you through the journey of virtualizing AD DS, avoiding common pitfalls, and recovering from common failures and problems associated with running Active Directory Domain Services in your enterprises. Demos include hands-on troubleshooting, correction, stabilization and optimization of a defective AD DS forest and multiple domains. Topics include, virtualization and the AD DS Database, replication, time synchronization and convergence, Fault domains, common challenge and general Best Practices.
It’s much more to learn from Deji Akomolafe at VMworld Europe about running Microsoft products on VMware and the virtualize Africa initiative.
Microsoft SQL Server
Microsoft SQL Server on VMware – Deep Dive and Performance Optimization [BCA2156TE].
Thursday November 7th
Oleg Ulyanov, Sr. Solution Architect – Microsoft Technologies, CPBU, VMware.
Iwan Rahabok, Product Manager, VROPs, VMware.
The Microsoft SQL Server on VMware vSphere workshop will provide attendees the opportunity to learn the essential skills necessary to run SQL Server workloads on VMware vSphere. The best practices and optimal approaches to deployment, operation and management of SQL Server workloads on VMware vSphere will be covered by both VMware expert Oleg Ulyanov who will be joined by the famous E1, Iwan Rahabok, the man behind vRealize Operations (vROPs), – very passionate speaker focusing on performance metrics. This technical workshop will exceed the standard breakout session format by delivering “real-life”, instructor-led, live training and incorporating the recommended design and configuration practices for architecting Business Critical Databases on VMware vSphere infrastructure. Subjects such as performance, monitoring, high availability and disaster recovery with SQL Server Always On Failover Cluster Instances (FCI )or Availability Groups (AGs) as well as advanced storage architectures will be covered in depth. You can expect a lot more vRealize Operations Manager information from the first hands of Iwan.
VMworld Europe this year has a lot to offer for everyone interested in running Microsoft SQL Server databases efficiently and effectively on VMware vSphere – check out these events and ensure to add them to your schedule.
SAP
SAP on VMware Performance and Sizing (BCA2158TE)
Thursday November 7th
Valid sizing and maximum performance are essential for the successful operation of SAP business systems, which drive a large proportion of the world’s supply chain. SAP defines strict performance criteria for certifying the SAP HANA platform with infrastructure vendors. In this tutorial, multiple SAP experts from VMware will share their experiences in optimizing performance and sizing of SAP NetWeaver and SAP HANA on the VMware vSphere platform. Learn about the SAP on VMware certification process and see examples. You will also get performance and tuning guidelines for the application and database tiers on traditional storage and VMware vSAN. See example performance escalations and monitoring with SAP and VMware tools. Find out about sizing SAP landscapes based on business requirements.
Oracle
