VMworld Europe 2017: 10 Years in the Making

This year marked the 10th VMworld Europe! The 2017 conference took place 11 – 14 of September at the Fira Gran Via in beautiful Barcelona. From Showcase Keynotes to Breakout Sessions, meeting up with experts, and rocking out with the Kaiser Chiefs, here’s the download on all things vImportant from the event.

VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger took the stage to greet our record-breaking number of attendees at VMworld Europe! Pat started the conference with details on key announcements – like partnering with IBM in Europe – before discussing the future of technology and how VMware fits into the equation. He noted the current foundation for learning is the three “R’s” – reading, writing and arithmetic, yet Pat suggests this will shift to reading, writing, coding and arithmetic.

During the second general session, we dished the details on all of your VMware questions during a Q&A with Pat Gelsinger, Sanjay Poonen, and Ray O’Farrell. We talked about the future of VMware, how our current cloud strategy fits into our company vision and how open source technology can be used alongside VMware technologies.

Following the General Sessions, we had multiple Showcase Keynotes that covered a wide-range of hot topics, including taking a software-defined approach to modernizing your data center, the importance of integrating security at every level and more.

VMvillage housed many of our incumbent’s favorite activities. After walking through registration, attendees were able to glance left and see the full Hands-on Labs area. This year, marked the most successful labs yet—on Monday alone, the labs team saw 1,500 labs taken in EMEA alone!

After joining in on labs, attendees walked through the village to the VMTM Community area, which housed the popular vBrownBag talks. Just next door, returning attendees found the Alumni Lounge – a great place to recharge and catch up on emails. Across the way was the Partner Lounge, and an interactive demo area: the IoT Experience. Home of connected car demos, industrial cities, and more!

Solutions Exchange
Across the hall was the Solutions Exchange. Here, we held our infamous Welcome Reception and Hall Crawl. Partner presentations, demos, and networking were abundant in this area…not to mention all of the swag!

Expert activities
In-between sessions, discovering the many booths in the solutions exchange and re-charging in VMvillage, we headed upstairs for more sessions and meetings. Upstairs our VMware experts also met with attendees at roundtable sessions and the ‘Meet the Experts’ bar.

On Wednesday evening, we enjoyed the Customer Appreciation Party where we kicked back with food and drinks aplenty and rocked out to the Kaiser Chiefs. That’s a wrap on VMworld Europe 2017! If you attended the event, help us make next year’s even better by filling out the conference survey (available both in your My VMworld portal and in the app!).

We’ll see you all again in Barcelona next year! Mark your calendars for 5-8 of November in 2018 for the next VMware Europe.
