Five years ago, my fellow co-founders, Ajit Mayya and Steve Woo, and I had a vision to create a company that was not only innovative, industry-transforming, and market-leading, but was supported by a team of smart, fast-learning and fun individuals. I am both proud and humbled to say that today VeloCloud Networks, the company we created, has graduated to the next step in its growth.
On November 1, 2017, VeloCloud celebrated its fifth birthday, and the next day, November 2, VMware announced its intent to acquire us. Over the last six weeks, both the VMware team and the VeloCloud team have worked diligently to complete the deal and I am delighted to announce that the deal for VMware to acquire VeloCloud has closed. As of today, VeloCloud has joined VMware’s Networking and Security Business Unit. Together, we will continue to disrupt, define and accelerate the industry’s move to a software-defined networking future.
Through this acquisition, VeloCloud Cloud-Delivered SD-WAN will extend VMware’s industry leading and game-changing network virtualization solution to the edge. The integration of VeloCloud’s SD-WAN with VMware’s network virtualization offering is an ideal match, providing customers with an unrivaled and true end-to-end network solution, from the core and the cloud to the edge of the network, with complete visibility, speed and security, ease of management and deployment, and optimized access for all applications.
While VeloCloud will operate as part of the greater VMware Networking and Security Business Unit, the statement I made in my previous blog regarding the acquisition still holds true:
“At this well-appointed pit stop we are getting a bigger engine, a fresh set of tires, more gas and a much larger team of like-minded folks who are rooting and planning and working for our continued success.”
My VeloCloud team and I will continue to support our customers and our partners in their journey with SD-WAN. We’re looking forward to what the future will hold, and to continuing our position as market leaders, technology innovators, and networking enablers.
