According to the Federal Statistical Office, 47 million people purchased goods or services for private purposes over the Internet in 2015 – an increase of 20% since 2010. For a traditional company like VIlleroy & Boch, it has not been spared from changes in customer behavior, forcing a systematic digital realignment to be adopted by the group.

With clear objectives defined from the beginning – a high degree of flexibility, rapid provisioning of resources, good cost-performance ratio, sufficient transparency and speed – Dr. Rheinert and his team appraised various IT infrastructure providers to help them achieve this. Also factoring in the decision was the importance of SAP system in their environment – which were protected through a large number of security systems.

Landing on OVH, the European market leader in IT infrastructure, with over 250,000 servers around the world, the deciding factors included OVH’s ISO-certified security standards, its dedicated content delivery network (CDN) and, above all, its data center in northern Canada – crucial for developing e-commerce further in the USA, a core market of Villeroy & Boch.
One additional advantage the company saw, was realizing an interesting price-performance model since it produces its own server structure. In a matter of a few months, the entire Villeroy & Boch server environment was migrated to the dedicated cloud at OVH, which is based on VMware’s vSphere and vCenter.

With the implementation of the dedicated cloud at OVH, Villeroy & Boch saw fast responses to access and sales peaks that were able to be managed. Turning to OVH helped Dr. Rheinert and his team achieve great flexibility and accelerated provision of new resources, coupled with improved internet connection for web apps, resulting in shorter load times for customers.
