Technical Account Manager
Would you like to have a VMware engineer paired up with your company to fully understand how your company works with our products? Would you like your voice to be heard clearly within VMware R&D to help influence the direction of our future products?
The TAM Buddy program does just that for dozens of our TAM Customers. TAMs worldwide have the ability to nominate their customers for participation in the program, noting the solution where they would most like to focus. Internally, VMware encourages their engineers to sign up for the program and indicate their area(s) of expertise. Through the TAM Buddy program, compatible companies and engineers are paired and begin working together. Typically, there are meetings at least once a month to discuss the initiatives underway.
This program greatly benefits both sides. Our engineers gain a much deeper understanding of how their products are actually used in real-life situations, not test labs or development beds. This helps them make better choices when developing products for all of our customers, and they pass these lessons on to other engineers internally. The customers enjoy a connection with an engineer who is directly involved with the VMware product that has the highest impact to their current environment. Discussing their pain points and concerns with someone who has an intimate knowledge of the product helps them make the best choices around that product in the present and into the future. It also ensures that their viewpoints are taken directly back into VMware R&D, so our future releases are more likely to address the concerns they raise, or improve further in the areas they depend on the most.
Typically, some of our largest customers are not our earliest adopters. Although our most recent releases can provide a great deal of benefit to large customers, including security advancements for those who are the most security conscious, the complexity of moving to new versions often causes those customers to move slowly to new releases. Through the TAM Buddy program, we have partnered with some of our largest customers to better understand their concerns and directly address them. One of our largest international banking customers recently migrated to the newest VMware release for the first time due in large part to the advice and advocacy their TAM Buddy engineer provided to them.
Here are a few comments received from people involved in this program to give you an idea of the impact a TAM Buddy can have on customer goals and initiatives.
